Claire Butorac
Claire Butorac (born September 24, 1999) is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She played college ice hockey at Minnesota State. Early life Butorac played soccer while growing up. She attended Andover High School in Andover, Minnesota where she was a four-time letter winner in ice hockey and three-time letter winner in lacrosse. She was named a Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award semifinalist in 2018. College career Butroac began her collegiate career for Minnesota State during the 2018–19 season. During her freshman year, she appeared in all 35 games and recorded two goals and three assists. During the 2019–20 season in her sophomore year, she appeared in all 37 games and recorded eight goals and four assists. The Minnesota Frost are a professional ice hockey team based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, that competes in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). The Walter Cup () is the championship trophy awarded annually to the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) playoff champion. History Origins On April 4, 2024, the Professional Women's Hockey League announced in a press release the name of the trophy awarded to the league's playoff champion team, the Walter Cup. Kelly Pannek
Kelly Pannek (born December 29, 1995) is an American professional ice hockey player for the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She previously played in the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association. Career In high school, she set the state record for the quickest natural hat trick, scoring three goals in 22 seconds in a 2012 game. Across 157 games for the University of Minnesota in the NCAA, Pannek put up 186 points. In 2017, she was a Patty Kazmaier Award Finalist after scoring 62 points in 39 games and winning the national championship for the second year in a row. Kendall Coyne Schofield (born May 25, 1992) is an American professional ice hockey player and captain for the Minnesota Frost and the United States national team. With the national team, she has won six gold medals at the IIHF World Women's Championships and the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. In 2016, she was the winner of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. In January 2017, Coyne was recognized as the recipient of the NCAA Today's Top 10 Award. In ice hockey, a line is a group of forwards who play in a group, or "shift", during a game. A complete forward line consists of a left wing, a centre, and a right wing, while a pair of defencemen who play together are called "partners". Taylor Heise (born March 17, 2000) is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She played college ice hockey at Minnesota where she won the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2022. She is also a member of the United States national team. 2023–24 PWHL Season
The 2023–24 PWHL season was the first season of operation of the Professional Women's Hockey League, and began play on January 1, 2024. Six teams competed during the inaugural season, located in PWHL Montreal, Montreal, PWHL Toronto, Toronto, PWHL New York, New York/Bridgeport, PWHL Boston, Boston, PWHL Ottawa, Ottawa, and PWHL Minnesota, Saint Paul. The season culminated in a two-round best-of-five playoff including the top four teams to determine the season champion. PWHL Toronto topped the regular season standings with 17 wins and 47 points. The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) was a women's professional ice hockey league in the United States and Canada that operated from March 2015 until June 2023. The league was established in 2015 as the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), comprising four league-owned teams.
