Claiborne Farm is a thoroughbred horse breeding operation near Paris, Kentucky. It was established in 1910 by Arthur B. Hancock, owner of Ellerslie Stud in Albemarle County, Virginia, and has been operated by members of his family ever since. Owners * Arthur B. Hancock (1875–1957) * Arthur B. Sir Gallahad
Sir Gallahad (1920–1949) was a French Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse and an important Horse breeding, sire in the United States. Racing career Racing at age two in France for his British breeder/owner, Jefferson Davis Cohn, Sir Gallahad earned victory in three of his five starts but was overshadowed by the 1922 Champion colt, Epinard. At age three, he won four races, most notably the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, French 2,000 Guineas (Poule d'Essai des Poulains). At four, he won three important races in France and in United Kingdom, England won the Lincoln Handicap, Lincolnshire Handicap. Keeneland Association, Inc. is an equine business based in Lexington, Kentucky. Orb (foaled February 24, 2010 in Kentucky) is a champion American Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse who won the 2013 Kentucky Derby. Background Orb is a bay colt with a small white star (horse marking), star bred and owned by Stuart S. Janney III and Ogden Mills Phipps, Phipps Stable. He was sired by Malibu Moon, whose other progeny include the Grade I winners Declan's Moon, Devil May Care (horse), Devil May Care, Life At Ten (Beldame Stakes) and Malibu Prayer (Ruffian Handicap). The Phipps family of the United States is a prominent American family that descends from Henry Phipps Jr. (1839–1930), a businessman and philanthropist. Princequillo (1940–1964) was a Thoroughbred Thoroughbred horse race, racehorse conceived in France and born in Ireland. He is known for his performances in long-distance races and his successes as a Horse breeding#Terminology, sire. Background His sire, Prince Rose, stood at the Haras de Cheffreville stud farm in France and was mated to the mare Cosquilla. When World War II broke out, the pregnant mare was shipped to Ireland, where she gave birth to Princequillo.
