Civil Affairs Police Force
The Civil Affairs Police Force (CAPF) was established to maintain peace and security in British Malaya. The force was set up by the British Military Administration (Malaya), British Military Administration which took over the administration of British Malaya, Malaya from the Japanese Imperial Army when the latter surrendered in August 1945. The establishment of CAPF in September 1945 was an important development in the history of the police force. It was the first time a single, centrally administered police force was set up for the entire British Malaya. Prior to the Japanese occupation of Malaya, Japanese Occupation from 1942 to 1945, several police forces existed in the region. The force was led by Commissioner of Police H. B. Longworthy. Straits Settlements Police
A strait is a water body connecting two seas or water basins. The surface water is, for the most part, at the same elevation on both sides and flows through the strait in both directions, even though the topography generally constricts the flow somewhat. In some straits there is a dominant directional current. Most commonly, the strait is a narrowing channel that lies between two land masses. British Military Administration (Malaya)
The British Military Administration (BMA) was the Caretaker government, interim administrator of British Malaya from August 1945, the end of World War II, to the establishment of the Malayan Union in April 1946. The BMA was under the direct command of the Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia, Lord Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Louis Mountbatten. The administration had the dual function of maintaining basic subsistence during the period of reoccupation, and also of imposing the state structure upon which post-war imperial power would rest.
