''City That Care Forgot'' is the first full-length studio album by American musician Dr. John and his band the Lower 911. It was released on June 3, 2008, via 429 Records/Cooking Vinyl. Recording sessions took place at Dockside Studio in Maurice, with additional recording at The Music Shed in New Orleans, Pedernales Studio in Spicewood and Legacy Recording Studios in New York City. Production was handled by Jeff Jones, Herman Ernest III and Dr. John himself. It features guest appearances from Eric Clapton, Terence Blanchard, Ani DiFranco, James Andrews, Terrance Simien, Trombone Shorty and Willie Nelson. At the 51st Annual Grammy Awards held in 2009, the album was won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Maurice, Louisiana
Maurice is a Town (Louisiana), town in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 964 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census and 2,118 for the 2020 census us, 2020 Census. It is part of the Abbeville, Louisiana, Abbeville Micropolitan Statistical Area, micropolitan statistical area. History The village, originally called ''"Mauriceville"'', derives its name from its founder Maurice Villien. Villien, a native of Savoy, France, came to America in 1855 and sold goods in New Orleans, New Iberia and Milton. His wife had land holdings there and they established a home and grocery store. On May 29, 1889, the site, on which the church and rectory in Maurice were to be built, was donated by Villien. The town was incorporated on December 27, 1911, and Joseph Villien, Maurice's son, became mayor until 1928. Today, Joseph Street leads to the old home. Shannon McNally
Shannon Maureen McNally (born March 17, 1973) is an American singer and songwriter. Biography McNally was born in Hempstead, New York, on Long Island. While studying anthropology at Franklin and Marshall College, she began singing and playing guitar in small clubs. In 1997, after graduating and honing her skills on the streets of Paris as a busker, she got a contract with Capitol Records. She recorded her debut album, ''Jukebox Sparrows'' (Capitol, 2002), with Jim Keltner, Greg Leisz, and James Gadson. The album was not released at the time of its recording. Herman "Roscoe" Ernest III
Herman Ernest III (August 12, 1951 – March 6, 2011), best known as Roscoe, was an American session drummer and, for 30 years, the drummer for Dr. John. He was most active in the New Orleans Funk scene and referred to his playing style as "diesel funk". Early life and career Little is known about Ernest's early life, other than that he was one of 10 children born to Beatrice Webb. Ernest was the son of Webb's first husband, Herman Griffin; Webb's second husband, Adam Ernest, adopted Herman. It is likely that Ernest attended Mangham High School, in Mangham, Louisiana. In 1971, Ernest was hired as the drummer of King Floyd's band, the Rhythm Masters. After a split from the singer the band was named World Blues; it dwindled and Ernest formed a club band with Teddy Royal called Cypress. The Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album was awarded from 1988 to 2011 and from 2017 onwards. Until 1992 the award was known as Best Contemporary Blues Performance and in 1989 was awarded to a song rather than to an album. The award was discontinued after the 2011 Grammy season in a major overhaul of Grammy categories. From 2012 onwards, the category was merged with the Best Traditional Blues Album category to form the new Best Blues Album category. However, in 2016 the Grammy organisation decided to revert the situation back to the pre-2012 era, with two separate categories for traditional and contemporary blues recordings respectively.
