City''News'' is the title of news and current affairs programming on Rogers Sports & Media's Citytv network in Canada. The newscast division was founded on September 28, 1975 as City''Pulse'' as a standalone local newscast on the network's Toronto station owned by CHUM Limited. Through the acquisitions of the Edmonton, Winnipeg and Calgary A-Channel stations in 2004, it was relaunched under the City''News'' brand on August 2, 2005 and later expanded to Montreal in 2012. The remaining Citytv stations airs the news headlines segments during each station's ''Breakfast Television'' morning show. Before the 2017–2018 relaunch of City''News'' nationally, Citytv stations outside Toronto had their midday and evening news programs cancelled in 2006, and the remaining news programming on these stations (such as the nationally-broadcast ''CityNews International'') was cancelled in early 2010. CKEM-DT
CKEM-DT (channel 51) is a television station in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, part of the Citytv network. It is owned and operated by Rogers Sports & Media alongside Omni Television station CJEO-DT (channel 56). The two stations share studios with Rogers's local radio stations on Gateway Boulevard in Edmonton; CKEM-DT's transmitter is located near Yellowhead Highway/ Highway 16A. The station also operates a rebroadcast transmitter (CKEM-DT-1, channel 4) in Red Deer. CKEM was built as part of A-Channel, the regional television service constructed by Craig Broadcast Systems in 1997. Broadcasting from studios downtown in the historic Hudson's Bay Building, it was the first new commercial TV station in Edmonton since 1974; its style of news and programming was young and aggressive. Moses Znaimer
Moses Znaimer (; born 1942) is a Canadian media executive. He is the co-founder and former head of Citytv, the first independent television station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the current head of ZoomerMedia. Early life and education Znaimer was born to Jewish parents (Aron Znaimer and Chaya Znaimer née Epelsweig) from Latvia and Poland, who had fled the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union and relocated to Kulob in the Soviet republic of Tajikistan. Following the war, his family lived in a displaced persons camp in Germany, arriving in Halifax before ultimately ending up in Montreal in 1948 where they settled in a third-floor flat on Montréal’s storied Saint Urbain Street. CTV Atlantic (formerly known as the Atlantic Television System, or ATV) is a system of four television stations in the Maritimes, owned and operated by the CTV Television Network, a division of Bell Media. Despite the name, it is not available on basic cable or analog in Newfoundland and Labrador even though that province is part of Atlantic Canada. CJET-FM (92.3 MHz) is a commercial radio station licensed to Smiths Falls, Ontario, and serving the Ottawa Valley and National Capital Region. The station is owned by Rogers Radio, a division of Rogers Sports & Media. It broadcasts an adult hits format and is branded as '' Jack 92.3''. CJET-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 9,300 watts (17,000 watts maximum), horizontal polarization only. The transmitter is on Ontario Highway 15 near Line Road 7 in Beckwith, Ontario. On October 26, 2023, the station swapped call letters with its sister station, switching from CKBY-FM to CJET-FM, after the sister station abandoned its CityNews Radio format. } CIWW (1310 AM broadcasting, AM) was a radio station in Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario owned by Rogers Radio. The station was the oldest radio station in Ottawa, first signing on in 1922. The station broadcast at 50,000 watts, the maximum for Canadian AM stations. The transmitter site was on McKenna Casey Drive, near Strandherd Drive and Ontario Highway 416 in Nepean, Ontario, Nepean. To protect other stations on 1310 AM, it used a directional antenna. By day it employed a two-tower array and at night a five-tower array. The nighttime signal was beamed mainly into Canada. The towers were removed sometime in late 2023. In 2020, the station added an FM simulcast on CKBY-FM, CJET-FM. CJNT-DT (channel 62) is a television station in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, part of the Citytv network. Owned and operated by network parent Rogers Sports & Media, the station maintains studios inside the Rogers Building at the corner of McGill College Avenue and Cathcart Street near the Place Ville Marie complex in downtown Montreal, and its transmitter is located at Mount Royal Park, near downtown Montreal. History The station signed on the air on September 8, 1997, but had its roots in the 1980s as (TEQ), a public access ethnic cable channel. It had plans on moving over-the-air as early as the early 1990s, but was dogged by financial problems.
