CityLibraries Townsville
Townsville Citylibraries is a public library service serving the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It has three permanent libraries, a mobile library service and a home service. It is operated by Townsville City Council. Citylibraries serves almost 200,000 residents of Townsville and surrounding areas. History Townsville was the first city in the state of Queensland to open a free public library service in 1938. In 1986, the Shire of Thuringowa became a separate city and the library service divided; the Aitkenvale and City Library became the Townsville Library Service, and Thuringowa Library became a separate library service. Each had their own mobile library, with Thuringowa operating in the northern suburbs and Townsville in the southern suburbs. In 2008, the cities of Townsville and Thuringowa were amalgamated. Magnetic Island
Magnetic Island ( Wulguru: ''Yunbenun'') is an island offshore from the city of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. This mountainous island in Cleveland Bay has effectively become a suburb of Townsville. The island is accessible from Townsville Breakwater to Nelly Bay Harbour by ferry. There is a large National Park and bird sanctuary and walking tracks can be taken between the populated bays and to a number of tourist destinations such as the World War II forts. The island is a holiday destination with many hotels and several resorts in operation to cater for all levels of service. Sorry Day
National Sorry Day, officially the National Day of Healing, is an event held annually in Australia on 26 May commemorating the Stolen Generations. It is part of the ongoing efforts towards reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. The first National Sorry Day was held on the first anniversary of the 1997 Bringing Them Home report. It examined the government practices and policies which led to the Stolen Generations and recommended support and reparations to the Indigenous population. In 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd issued a formal apology for the mistreatment of Indigenous Australians on behalf of the federal government. National Sorry Day has also inspired many public acts of solidarity and support for reconciliation. Alligator Creek is a rural locality in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the , Alligator Creek had a population of 1,550 people. Geography Alligator Creek is approximately south-east of Townsville. The locality is bounded on the north by the Bruce Highway. The North Coast railway line is aligned with part of the northern boundary, though mostly runs just north of the boundary in Nome. As the name suggests, the creek Alligator Creek flows through the area from the south-east through to the north. It eventually enters Cleveland Bay within the locality of Cape Cleveland.
