''Race to Nowhere'' is a 2009 documentary film written by Maimone Attia and directed by Vicki Abeles and Jessica Congdon. Background Director Vicki Abeles made this movie after the pressures of school, homework, tutoring and extracurricular activities made her middle-school daughter physically sick. Abeles started to make major changes at home, but the problem seemed more systemic. She heard similar stories about the unintended consequences upon kids of today’s education system and culture. San Francisco Jewish Film Festival is the oldest Jewish film festival in the world, and currently the largest with a 2016 attendance figure of 40,000 at screenings in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, San Rafael, and Palo Alto. Jenni Olson (born October 6, 1962) is a writer, archivist, historian, consultant, and non-fiction filmmaker based in Berkeley, California. She co-founded the pioneering LGBT website PlanetOut.com. Tiffany Shlain (born April 8, 1970) is an American filmmaker and author. Described by the public radio program '' On Being'' as "an internet pioneer", Shlain is the co-founder of the Webby Awards and the founder of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Early life and education Shlain was raised in Mill Valley, California, the daughter of Leonard Shlain, a surgeon, author, and inventor, and Carol Lewis Jaffe, a psychologist. In high school, Shlain co-wrote a proposal called ''Uniting Nations in Telecommunications & Software (UNITAS),'' which envisioned students all over the world communicating over personal computers and via modems before the advent of the web.
