Cissie Caudeiron
Mabel Alice "Cissie" Caudeiron (20 December 1909 – 1968) was a folklorist from Roseau, Dominica. Caudeiron became famous as a Creole nationalist, and is credited with leading or inspiring a roots revival in Dominican music. She founded the Kairi Artistic Troop, and helped to organize the first National Day celebrations of 1965. Biography Born Mabel Boyd into what was considered one of Dominica's elite families, she was known as "Cissie" from childhood. She attended the Convent High School, where she was "involved in plays and concerts and later composed many Creole songs highly influenced by the beguines of Martinique." In 1938, she married French engineer Jean-Albert Caudeiron, and they moved to Venezuela, where she raised her family. Lennox Honychurch
Lennox Honychurch ( ; born 27 December 1952) is Dominica's most noted historian and a politician. He is well known for writing 1975's '' The Dominica Story: A History of the Island'', the 1980s textbook series '' The Caribbean People'', and the 1991 travel book '' Dominica: Isle of Adventure''. Also an artist and a curator, he was largely responsible for compiling the exhibit information for The Dominica Museum in Roseau. Honychurch is the grandson of writer and politician Elma Napier. Roseau ( Dominican Creole: ''Wozo'') is the capital and largest city of Dominica, with a population of 14,725 as of 2011. It is a small and compact urban settlement, in the Saint George parish and surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, the Roseau River and Morne Bruce. Built on the site of the ancient Island Carib village of Sairi, it is the oldest and most important urban settlement on the island of Dominica. Creole peoples are ethnic groups formed during the European colonial era, from the mass displacement of peoples brought into sustained contact with others from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, who converged onto a colonial territory to which they had not previously belonged. Edward Oliver Le Blanc (October 3, 1923 – October 29, 2004) was a Dominican politician. He served as the chief minister of Dominica from January 1961 to March 1, 1967 and as the first premier of Dominica. Life and career Le Blanc was born in Vieille Case. He joined the Dominica Labour Party in 1957. He joined the government of the Federation of the West Indies in Trinidad in 1958, but returned to Dominica later to become the leader of his party. He won a seat in the House of Assembly in 1961. Le Blanc served as chief minister of Dominica from January 1961 to March 1, 1967.
