Circle Theatre Chicago
Circle Theatre Chicago founded in 1985 by Wayne Buidens, Joe Bass, and Karen Skinner is a theatre company in Oak Park and Chicago, Illinois. They chose the name "Circle Theatre" to represent both Circle Avenue (Forest Park's main thoroughfare) and the concept of infinity. They began their work began in public buildings, and then settled in a church in 1987. A few years later, a fire destroyed the church and forced Circle to find its own space at 7300 Madison Street. The company was led by Karen Skinner until 1998 when she turned the artistic leadership over to her daughter Alena Murguia, and two company members Tony Vezner and Greg Kolack. The company is noted for producing new works; Rebecca Gilman's The Glory of Living had its premier at Circle in 1996. Forest Park Illinois
A forest is an area of land dominated by trees. Rebecca Gilman
Rebecca Gilman (born 1965 in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American playwright. Education She attended Middlebury College, graduated from Birmingham-Southern College, and earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Iowa Playwrights Workshop at the University of Iowa. Career Gilman was the first American playwright to win an ''Evening Standard'' Award. She serves on the advisory board for Chicago Dramatists. She has received the 2008 Harper Lee Award. Her most widely known works are '' Spinning Into Butter'', a play that addresses political correctness and racial identity, and '' Boy Gets Girl'', which was included in ''Time Magazines List of the Best Plays and Musicals of the Decade. A production of her adaptation of ''The Heart is a Lonely Hunter'' was the occasion of a protest by actors who felt only a deaf person should play a deaf person on stage. The Glory Of Living
''The Glory of Living'' is a 1996 play by Rebecca Gilman. The play received its first production at the Circle Theatre Chicago in Forest Park, Illinois. The play has won several awards and was a finalist for the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Plot The play opens with the main characters Lisa and Clint meeting for the first time. Clint has accompanied a friend to Lisa and her mother's mobile home to see Lisa's mother, a prostitute. Clint picks up on Lisa's unease about her mother's situation and begins charming her. The next scene opens a few years later and Clint and Lisa have married and have twins who are being cared for by Clint's mother. The couple has been living in a series of motel rooms and are playing a scam whereby Lisa lures young girls into the room where Clint rapes and abuses them. Kevin Bellie
Kevin Bellie (born May 8, 1971) is an American director and choreographer based in the Chicago, Illinois area. Bellie has been nominated for 20 Joseph Jefferson Awards and is a five-time award winner. Bellie was artistic director for Circle Theatre Chicago in Forest Park from 2003–2012 before stepping down to pursue freelance work. Biography Besides working as a freelance director/choreographer, Bellie is a teacher of the fine arts and the registrar for St. Ignatius College Preparatory High School in Chicago. Bellie had been a company member for 16 years at Circle Theatre before becoming artistic director for nine years (2003-2012). Robert Alan 'Bob' Knuth (born May 15, 1967) is an American scenic designer and art director based in the Chicago, Illinois area. Knuth is currently the Creative Director of Marketing & Brand for The Second City Inc (Chicago, Hollywood, Toronto) and UP Comedy Club in Chicago.
