Cinder Butte Fire
The Cinder Butte Fire was a wildfire that burned over of Oregon rangeland during the summer of 2017. The fire began on 2 August 2017. It was determined to be human-caused since lightning was not present in the area prior to the initial fire report. The fire consumed rangeland vegetation and juniper woodlands in the area east of Glass Buttes in northern Lake County and then spread into northwestern Harney County. Most of the burned area was on public land administered by the Bureau of Land Management. Firefighters battled the blaze for over a week. At the peak of the firefighting effort, there were 496 firefighters working on the Cinder Butte Fire. The 2017 Oregon wildfires were a series of wildfires that burned over the course of 2017. The 2017 fire season in the state of Oregon was a particularly notable one. There has been a trend for the last three decades that shows an increase in the overall number of wildfires as well as the fire season length in the state of Oregon. In 2017 Oregon experienced a total of 1,069 reported wildfires: with 779 human ignited and 290 ignited by lightning strikes. These fires burned a total area of 451,863 acres. The catalyst for these fires was the abnormal weather patterns that persisted throughout 2017. Fire season typically begins in Oregon in May. Wagontire, Oregon
Wagontire is an unincorporated community in Harney County, Oregon, United States, along U.S. Route 395. The community was named after nearby Wagontire Mountain. From 1986 to at least 1997, Wagontire was home to just two people: William and Olgie Warner. The Warners' property included a gas station, cafe, motel, general store, and recreational vehicle (RV) park. Also there was Wagontire Airport, across the road from the buildings. A wildland fire engine is a fire engine specifically designed to assist in fighting wildfires by transporting firefighters to the scene and providing them with access to the fire, along with water or other equipment.
