Château Du Bois-Rouaud
The Château du Bois-Rouaud is a castle in Chéméré, Loire-Atlantique, France. History It was built in 1905 to the design of architect Alfred Coulomb. The grounds were designed by Édouard André and his son, René Édouard André. In 1912, the former dadoes of the Jockey-Club de Paris were moved to the drawing-room in this castle. Édouard André
Édouard François André (; 17 July 1840 – 25 October 1911) was a French horticulturalist, landscape designer, as well as a leading landscape architect of the late 19th century, famous for designing city parks and public spaces in Lithuania, Monte Carlo and Montevideo. Biography Born into a family of nurserymen in Bourges, Cher, Édouard André assisted Jean-Pierre Barillet-Deschamps in 1860, at the age of twenty, and participated in the redesign of the city of Paris in cooperation with Jean-Charles Adolphe Alphand and Georges-Eugène Haussmann. Eventually he was appointed Head Gardener (''Jardinier Principal'') of Paris. During eight years of public service he designed and planted many public spaces, including the Parc des Buttes Chaumont and Tuileries Gardens. Dado (architecture)
In architecture, the dado is the lower part of a wall, below the dado rail and above the skirting board. The word is borrowed from Italian meaning "dice" or "cube", and refers to " die", an architectural term for the middle section of a pedestal or plinth. Decorative treatment This area is given a decorative treatment different from that for the upper part of the wall; for example panelling, wainscoting or lincrusta. The purpose of the dado treatment to a wall is both aesthetic and functional. Historically, the panelling below the dado rail was installed to cover the lower part of the wall which was subject to stains associated with rising damp; additionally it provided protection from furniture and passing traffic. The dado rail itself is sometimes referred to as a chair rail, though this can be misleading since its function is principally aesthetic and not to protect the wall from chair backs. Schneider et Compagnie, also known as Schneider-Creusot for its birthplace in the French town of Le Creusot, was a historic iron and steel-mill company which became a major arms manufacturer. The Château de Juigné is an historic castle in Juigné-sur-Sarthe, Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France. History The castle was built in the 17th century for the Le Clerc de Juigné family. In 1680, Jacques Le Clerc de Juigné left his Château de Verdelles in Poillé-sur-Vègre, also in Sarthe, for this new castle.
