Chuuk International Airport
Chuuk International Airport is an airport located on Weno (formerly Moen), the main island of the State of Chuuk (formerly Truk) in the Federated States of Micronesia. History Chuuk International Airport was originally built by Japan between November and December 1942. Back then it was known as Harushima Airfield to the Japanese or Moen Air Field 1. With around 80 support buildings including a large hangar and underground storage for fuel and ammunition, it was used by fighter, bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. Between October 4, 1944 and June 27, 1945, the airfield was attacked by USAAF aircraft. Airlines and destinations Like many islands within the region, commercial air service is rather limited. Weno, formerly Moen, is an island municipality of Chuuk State of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). It is the largest town in the FSM. It has an estimated area of 20 square kilometers. Fais Island is a Raised coral atoll, raised coral island in the eastern Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Air Niugini Flight 73 was a scheduled service from Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, via Chuuk, FSM. On 28 September 2018, a Boeing 737, operated by Air Niugini, landed short of the runway at Chuuk International Airport in Weno (FSM) and came to rest in Chuuk Lagoon. Locals in small boats rescued most passengers and all crew members. One passenger was initially declared missing, and was later found dead by rescue divers. Marshall Islands International Airport
Marshall Islands International Airport , also known as Amata Kabua International Airport, is located in the western part of Rairok on the south side of Majuro Atoll, the capital of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The airport was built during World War II (1943) on Anenelibw and Lokojbar islets. It replaced Majuro Airfield, a coral-surfaced airstrip at Delap Island near the eastern end of Majuro Atoll that had been originally constructed by Japanese occupation forces in 1942. A series of single-floor structures (small hangars) make up the airport terminal. No physical structures existed at the airport prior to the 1970s. Bucholz Army Airfield is a United States Army airfield located on Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands. Its position is ideal for refueling during trans-Pacific flights, and the airport is available to civilians through Air Marshall Islands and United Airlines. Kosrae International Airport
Kosrae International Airport is an airport serving Kosrae, the easternmost state of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is located on an artificial island within the fringing reef about 150 meters from the coast and is connected to the main island by a causeway. The airport has been continuously served by the United Airlines (formerly Continental Micronesia) Island Hopper service between Guam and Honolulu, which stops twice weekly at Kosrae in each direction. Kosrae is three jogs from both Guam and Honolulu. As of June 2015, Nauru Airlines stops at Kosrae once a week in each direction between Nauru and Chuuk. Yap International Airport is an airport on Yap, the main island of the State of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. The airport receives regular commercial flights from Guam. Pacific Missionary Aviation makes periodic trips to the outer island airfields of Ulithi Atoll and Fais Island. Woleai airfield is currently closed for repairs. Woleai, also known as Oleai, is a coral atoll of twenty-two islands in the western Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in the Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia and is located approximately west-northwest of Ifalik and northeast of Eauripik. Ulithi Civil Airfield is a public airport serving the island of Falalop, located in the Ulithi Atoll in the Caroline Islands, Federated States of Micronesia. It was previously Falalop Airfield or Naval Air Base Ulithi (NAB Ulithi), when used as a World War II airfield. History The Japanese had built an airstrip on Falalop. Ulithi Atoll was captured unopposed on 20 September 1944.
