Église Saint-Maurice, Annecy
Église Saint-Maurice (in English, ''St. Maurice Church'') is a Roman Catholic church in Annecy, France. It is the oldest church in Annecy. It was originally built as a chapel of a Dominican Order, Dominican convent in 1422, sponsored by Cardinal (Catholicism), Cardinal Jean-Allarmet de Brogny. The church has a Gothic architecture, Gothic style architecture. Chapels are built in different parts of the nave by noble families or artisan corporations from 1478 onwards, forming the present lower sides of the church. Notably, there is a 15th-century "trompe-l'œil" painting to the left of the Cathedral architecture#Choir and presbytery, choir. The building is designated as a Monument historique, national monument in 1957. St Maurice's Church, Winchester
St Maurice's Church, Winchester was a parish church in the Church of England in Winchester, Hampshire. The parish was united with that of St Mary Kalendar and the old church was taken down in March 1840, rebuilt to designs by the architect William Gover of Winchester, and reopened on 21 July 1842, when it was consecrated by the Bishop of Winchester. The body of the church was taken down in the late 1950s. The only remains are the 15th-century tower, built of flint and rubble and incorporating a Norman arch, which is Grade II listed. The tower also displays a sundial and the arms of King George III. Organ The church contained a pipe organ dating from 1756 by Father Smith. When the church closed this was moved to St Thomas' Church, Southgate Street, and when that church closed, it moved again to St Denys Church, Portswood, Southampton. Église Saint-Maurice (Church of Saint Maurice) is the parish church of the village of Soultz-les-Bains, in the Bas-Rhin department of France. It should not be confused with Église Saint-Maurice of Soultz-Haut-Rhin, in the neighbouring Haut-Rhin department. The church is notable for its medieval tower and for being one of the earliest examples of Gothic Revival architecture in Alsace. It is classified as a Monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture since 1996. The church was first mentioned in 1165. The basis of the tower is Romanesque (late 12th-century). It is decorated with reliefs on the outside and with frescos on the inside. The upper part of the tower is Gothic and dates from the end of the 15th century. The rest of the church was rebuilt according to plans (1843, 1844) by the architect Charles Morin (1810–1897), and inaugurated in 1848. In 1888, the nave was covered with a wooden barrel vault. Église Saint-Maurice (Church of Saint Maurice) is the medieval parish church of the small town of Soultz, in the Haut-Rhin department of France. The church is noteworthy for its refined and light (''épuré et léger'') Gothic design, and for the works of art it contains, including a Renaissance pulpit and a 1750 Silbermann pipe organ. It has been classified as a ''monument historique'' by the French Ministry of Culture since 1920. History The work on the church was begun in 1270, at the site of a previous Romanesque church from the 11th century, of which some remains have been uncovered by 1990s archaeologists.
