Chundikkulam National Park ( ta, சுண்டிக்குளம் தேசிய பூங்கா, translit=Cuṇṭikkuḷam Tēciya Pūṅkā; si, චුණ්ඩිකුලම ජාතික වනෝද්යානය, translit=Cuṇḍikulama Jātika Vanōdyānaya) is a national park in northern Sri Lanka, approximately north east of Kilinochchi. History Chundikkulam Lagoon and its surrounding area was designated as a bird sanctuary on 25 February 1938 under the ''Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance (No. 2) of 1937''. In January 2009 the Sri Lanka Army's 55 Division, advancing from Nagar Kovil, re-captured the area around Chundikkulam sanctuary from the militant Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Northern Province, Sri Lanka
The Northern Province ( ta, வட மாகாணம் ''Vaṭa Mākāṇam''; si, උතුරු පළාත ''Uturu Paḷāta'') is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. The provinces have existed since the 19th century but did not have any legal status until 1987 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka established provincial councils. Elephant Pass, (, si, අලිමංකඩ Alimankada) Northern Province, Sri Lanka is located in the gateway of Jaffna Peninsula. It lies about 340 km north from capital. List Of National Parks Of Sri Lanka
National parks are a class of protected areas in Sri Lanka and are administered by the Department of Wildlife Conservation. National parks are governed by the ''Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance (No. 2) of 1937'' and may be created, amended or abolished by ministerial order. All of the land in national parks are state-owned and the entire habitat is protected. Activities prohibited in national parks include hunting, killing or removing any wild animal; destroying eggs/nests of birds and reptiles; disturbing of wild animals; interfering in the breeding of any animal; felling/damaging of any plant; breaking up land for cultivation/mining/other purpose; kindling/carrying of fire; and possessing/using any trap/explosive/poison to damage animal or plant life.
