Chunchon
Chuncheon (; ; literally ''spring river''), formerly romanized as Ch'unch'ŏn, is the capital of Gangwon Province, South Korea. The city lies in the north of the country, located in a basin formed by the Soyang River and Han River (Korea), Han River. There are some large lakes around the city, most notably Soyang Lake and Uiam Lake (or Uiam Dam). The area has small river islands, such as Sangjungdo, Ha-Jungdo, Bungeodo, and Wido. It is a popular destination among East Asian tourists as it was featured in the popular Korean drama ''Winter Sonata''. It is where the resort island of Namiseom is located. Also, Gangwon Provincial Office is located in the city. Chuncheon Marathon
The Chuncheon International Marathon () is an annual marathon race which is held in late October in the city of Chuncheon, South Korea. First held in 1946, it is the second oldest marathon in the country after the Seoul International Marathon. Uiam Dam
Uiam Dam is a dam in Uiam-ri, Shindong-myeon, Chuncheon, South Korea. It dams the Bukhan River. Built in 1967, it is operated by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP; ) is a subsidiary of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Marathon
The marathon is a long-distance foot race with a distance of kilometres ( 26 mi 385 yd), usually run as a road race, but the distance can be covered on trail routes. The marathon can be completed by running or with a run/walk strategy. There are also wheelchair divisions. More than 800 marathons are held worldwide each year, with the vast majority of competitors being recreational athletes, as larger marathons can have tens of thousands of participants. Makguksu
''Mak-guksu'' * () or buckwheat noodles is a Korean buckwheat noodle dish served in a chilled broth and sometimes with sugar, mustard, sesame oil or vinegar. It is a local specialty of the Gangwon Province, South Korea and that province's capital city Chuncheon. Jaengban-guksu is a type of makguksu in which buckwheat noodles and various vegetables are mixed in a tray. Ingredients and preparation ''Makguksu'' is closely related to ''naengmyeon'', the archetypal Korean cold noodle dish. However, its differences lie in the high concentration of buckwheat flour in its noodles — the result of the grain being a staple crop in the Gangwon-do area, and the use of greater amounts of vegetables. Gangwon (historical)
Kangwon Province or Kangwon-do (; ) was one of the Eight Provinces of Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. The province was formed in 1395, and derived its name from the names of the principal cities of Gangneung (강릉; 江陵) and the provincial capital Wonju (원주; 原州). In 1895, Kangwon-do was replaced by the Districts of Chuncheon (''Chuncheon-bu;'' 춘천부; 春川府) in the west and Gangneung (''Gangneung-bu;'' 강릉부; 江陵府) in the east. (Wonju later became part of Chungju District.) In 1896, Korea was redivided into thirteen provinces, and the two districts were merged to again form Kangwon-do Province. Hallym University () is a private university located in Chuncheon, Gangwon, Republic of Korea. Hallym University was established in 1982.
