Chudleigh Abbey
Chudleigh Abbey was an abbey in Chudleigh, Devon, England. Syon Abbey, St Bridget's Abbey of Syon had existed since 1415, returning to Spetisbury in Dorset in 1861 after 300 years and in Flanders and Portugal following the dissolution of the monasteries. In 1887 their monastery was built in Chudleigh and they occupied it until 1925 when they moved to Marley House, Rattery (Devon). The building was then converted into 6 residences. Chudleigh
Chudleigh () is an ancient wool town located within the Teignbridge District Council area of Devon, England; it is sited between Newton Abbot and Exeter. The electoral ward with the same name had a population of 5,919 at the 2021 United Kingdom census, 2021 census. Geography Chudleigh is located in the Teign Valley and is close to the edge of Dartmoor. Nearby Castle Dyke is an Iron Age hillfort which demonstrates far earlier settlement in the area. Syon Abbey
Syon Abbey , also called simply Syon, was a dual monastery of men and women of the Bridgettines, Bridgettine Order, although it only ever had abbesses during its existence. It was founded in 1415 and stood, until its demolition in the 16th century, on the left (northern) bank of the River Thames within the parish of Isleworth, in the county of Middlesex, on or near the site of the present Georgian mansion of Syon House, today in the London Borough of Hounslow. It was named after the biblical holy "City of David which is Zion" (1 Kings 8:1), built on the eponymous Mount Zion (or Sion, Syon, etc.). At the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries, dissolution, the abbey was the wealthiest religious house in England. Rattery
Rattery is a village and civil parish in the South Hams district, in the county of Devon, England, a few miles from the villages Buckfastleigh and neighbouring village Ashburton . The name has been suggested as a variant of Red Tree but is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Ratreu. In 2001 the parish had a population of 458.
