Chuck Mills
Morton J. "Chuck" Mills (December 1, 1928 – January 18, 2021) was an American college football coach. He served as the head coach at Pomona College (1957–1961), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1962–1963), the United States Merchant Marine Academy (1964), Utah State University (1967–1972), Wake Forest University (1973–1977), Southern Oregon University (1980–1988), and the United States Coast Guard Academy (1997). Education A native of Chicago, Illinois, Mills graduated from Illinois State University in 1950. Coaching career Hired in February 1967 at Utah State University, Mills was previously the offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs, the champions of the American Football League (AFL). Previous USU head coach Tony Knap had resigned in January for an assistant coaching position with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Coast Guard Bears
The United States Coast Guard Academy's intercollegiate sports teams are called the Bears. They compete in NCAA Division III as members of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Through the 2016 season, the Bears played football in the New England Football Conference, but after that season moved their football program into the NEWMAC, which started sponsoring the sport in 2017. The school fields 26 varsity teams. Origin of the name The academy nickname is the Bears, after the USRC ''Bear'', which made a dramatic rescue in Alaska in 1897, shortly after the opening of the academy. In 1926, then-Cadet Stephen Evans (a future superintendent of the academy) brought a live bear to the academy and named it Objee for "Objectionable Presence." 1966 Kansas City Chiefs Season
The 1966 Kansas City Chiefs season was the team's seventh season in the American Football League (AFL) and fourth in Kansas City. With an 11–2 regular season record, the Chiefs won the Western Division and defeated the Buffalo Bills 31–7 to win their second AFL Championship, their first in Kansas City. By winning the AFL Championship, the Chiefs were invited to play in the inaugural AFL-NFL World Championship Game, which would later be known as Super Bowl I, against the NFL's Green Bay Packers. 1967 Utah State Aggies Football Team
The 1967 Utah State Aggies football team was an American football team that represented Utah State University as an independent during the 1967 NCAA University Division football season. In their first season under head coach Chuck Mills, the Aggies compiled a 7–2–1 record and outscored their opponents 205 to 143. This was the Aggies' final season at the original Romney Stadium; they moved to a larger venue of the same name in 1968, located several blocks north.
