Chrysler Flathead Engine
The Chrysler flathead engine is a flathead inline automotive engine manufactured by the Chrysler Corporation from 1924 through the early 1960s. It came in four-,six-, and eight-cylinder configurations and varying displacements, with both cast iron and cast aluminum cylinder heads. It was installed in Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, and Plymouth branded vehicles. Straight-4 Chrysler introduced a straight-four in 1926 when the Maxwell Motor Corporation was re-organised into the Chrysler Corporation in 1925. Initially used by Chrysler, the straight-four was fitted to Plymouth cars and Dodge light trucks beginning in 1929, lasting in production through 1933. The original version displaced and produced 38 hp (28 kW). This was only produced in 1926, with displacement reduced to for 1927 and 1928. Polyspheric Engine
The Polyspheric engines were V8 engines produced by Chrysler from 1955 to 1958 as lower-cost alternatives to its Chrysler FirePower engine, ''Hemi'' engines. These engines were based on the ''Hemi'' engines, using the same engine block, blocks and crankshaft parts, but completely different cylinder heads, pushrods, exhaust manifolds and pistons. They were called ''Polyspheric'' or ''Poly'' engines, because they featured polyspherical-shaped (meaning "more than one sphere") combustion chambers. These were formed by two shallow concave domes where the intake and exhaust valve seats were. Because these engines needed a less sophisticated rocker arm, rocker setup than a true hemi, with only a single rocker shaft in each head, they were also cheaper to produce and lighter. Overhead Valve Engine
An overhead valve engine, abbreviated (OHV) and sometimes called a pushrod engine, is a piston engine whose valves are located in the cylinder head above the combustion chamber. This contrasts with flathead (or "sidevalve") engines, where the valves were located below the combustion chamber in the engine block. Although an overhead camshaft (OHC) engine also has overhead valves, the common usage of the term "overhead valve engine" is limited to engines where the camshaft is located in the engine block. In these traditional OHV engines, the motion of the camshaft is transferred using pushrods (hence the term "pushrod engine") and rocker arms to operate the valves at the top of the engine. The Chrysler A57 Multibank is a 30-cylinder engine that was created in 1941 as America entered World War II. It consists of five banks of inline-6 cylinder engines. The Massey-Harris Model 101 was a tractor built by Massey-Harris (later Massey Ferguson) from 1938 to 1946.Pripps, p.61. Developed under the guidance of James S. Duncan, who gambled corporate losses would drop and won, the 101 introduced the Chrysler L-head inline six. The six would compete with Oliver's straight-six Model 70, while saving money on development of a whole new engine as well as taking advantage of Chrysler's existing parts and service network. Specification The 101 used the 201 in³ (3,292 cc) six, taking advantage of its stock electric start, a first in a tractor. Run at much lower revs than the truck engine, the 101 came in the usual standard and row-crop models, with four-speed transmission, and was capable of 20 mph (32 km/h) on roads.
