Jamar Rolando McNaughton (born 10 October 1992), popularly known as Chronixx, is a Jamaican reggae artist. Oje Ken Ollivierre (born 14 June 1981), popularly known as Protoje, is a Jamaican of Afro-European heritage, a contemporary reggae singer and songwriter. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its Jamaican diaspora, diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, "Do the Reggay", was the first popular song to use the word ''reggae'', effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Reggae is rooted in traditional Jamaican Kumina, Pukkumina, Revival Zion, Nyabinghi, and burru drumming. Jamaican reggae music evolved out of the earlier genres mento, ska and rocksteady. Lila Iké (born Alecia Tameka Grey; January 23, 1994) is a Jamaican reggae singer and songwriter. After releasing multiple singles, Iké released her debut studio album ''The ExPerience'' in May 2020. Career Grey was born in Christiana, Manchester, Jamaica where she attended Manchester High School, Jamaica, Manchester High School and graduated in 2011. She enrolled at Northern Caribbean University in Mandeville until 2015. She attempted to return to school at The University of the West Indies, but has stopped to pursue musical career. Jesse Royal (musician)
Jesse David Royal (born 29 April 1989) is a Jamaican reggae musician. Early life Jesse Royal (Jesse David Leroi Grey) was born in St James Parish, Jamaica to a family of Maroon ancestry and Rasta faith. The Royal family relocated to Kingston in 1997 where his father took a job with a telecommunications firm. While in school Royal became friends with Daniel Bambata Marley, son of reggae artist Ziggy Marley. Music career Early life (2010–2016) Royal began his career being mentored by the late Fatis Burrell (the father of one of Royal's classmates), who produced Jesse's first two releases, ''Singing the Blues'' and ''Long Days and Short Nights'' in 2010. Keron Salmon (born April 19, 1985), known professionally as Kabaka Pyramid, is a reggae artist from Kingston, Jamaica. His music blends elements of roots reggae, dancehall and rap. He cites influences from both hip-hop artists, such as Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan, and roots reggae performers, including Peter Tosh. Career Keron began his musical career in the late 1990s, writing lyrics, rapping, and experimenting with beat-making and sampling tools alongside friends from his high school in the Hope Pastures area. Major Lazer is an American electronic dance music and DJ trio, which includes record producer Diplo, and DJs Walshy Fire and Ape Drums. They were founded in 2008 by Diplo and Switch, with Switch leaving after three years in 2011. He was then replaced by both Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. In June 2019, Jillionaire left the group and was replaced by Ape Drums. Their music spans numerous genres, mixing reggae with dancehall, ReggaeEDM, reggaeton, soca, house and moombahton.
