Christopher Lethbridge (Australian Politician)
Christopher Baron Lethbridge (30 August 1886 – 8 March 1981) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly between 1937 and 1946. He was an Independent member of parliament. Early life Lethbridge was born in Mitchell, Queensland and was the son of a clerk. He was educated at Brisbane Grammar School and became an articled clerk. He served with the First Australian Imperial Force in France during World War One. Lethbridge was admitted as a solicitor in 1920 and founded Nicholson and Lethbridge, a law firm in Corowa where he was noted for his legal representation of soldier settlers. Lethbridge was involved in community organizations including the Ambulance Board and the Corowa Race club. Lethbridge also developed a farm,'Barondale' in the Corowa region. Christopher Lethbridge (died 1670) of Exeter in Devon, was Mayor of Exeter in 1660, and is one of the ''Worthies of Devon'' of the biographer John Prince (biographer), John Prince, (1643–1723). His mural monument survives in St Mary Arches Church in Exeter. Origins He was born at Walson, an estate listed in the Domesday Book of 1066, in the parish of Clannaborough, north of Okehampton and Crediton in Devon. The parish of Clannaborough adjoined on the south-west to the parishes of Bow, alias Nymet Tracy, and of Broad Nymet, of which latter he was lord of the manor at his death. Walson Barton (demesne), Barton is situated between the villages of Bow and Nymet Tracy. John Prince (biographer), Prince did not record his parentage, however it is recorded in the Heraldic Visitations of Devon that Robert Lethbridge of Nimet Tracy married Alice Knapman, a daughter of Alexander Knapman of Throwley, Devon, probably ''circa'' 1600-20.
