Christopher Green (paediatrician)
Christopher Green , is an Australian paediatrician and author of parenting guide books. He works as an honorary consultant to the Children's Hospital, Westmead, in Sydney and continues to release revised editions of his books, including ''Toddler Taming'', ''Beyond Toddlerdom'' and ''Understanding ADHD''. He is associated with the popularisation of the ' Controlled Crying' technique, a method he claims to have invented. Green was awarded the Order of Australia medal in 2004. In the United Kingdom, paediatrics covers many of their youth until the age of 18. Order Of Australia
The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. Before the establishment of the order, Australian citizens received British honours. The Monarch of Australia is sovereign head of the order, while the Governor-General of Australia is the principal companion/dame/knight (as relevant at the time) and chancellor of the order. The governor-general's official secretary, Paul Singer (appointed August 2018), is secretary of the order. Westmead Hospital
Westmead Hospital is a major tertiary hospital in Sydney, Australia. Opened on 10 November 1978, the 975-bed hospital forms part of the Western Sydney Local Health District, and is a teaching hospital of Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney. The hospital serves a population of 1.85m people and is located on one of the largest health and hospital campuses in Australia. In 2016/17, Westmead Hospital provided more than 1.5m occasions of care to outpatients, in addition to approximately 107,000 inpatients. Ferber Method
The Ferber method, or Ferberization, is a technique invented by Richard Ferber to solve infant sleep problems. It involves "sleep-training" children to self-soothe by allowing the child to cry for a predetermined amount of time at intervals before receiving external comfort. "Cry it out" The "Cry It Out" (CIO) approach can be traced back to the book ''The Care and Feeding of Children'' written by Emmett Holt in 1894. CIO is any sleep-training method which allows a baby to cry for a specified period before the parent will offer comfort. "Ferberization" is one such approach. Ferber does not advocate simply leaving a baby to cry, but rather supports giving the baby time to learn to self-soothe, by offering comfort and support from the parent at predetermined intervals. The best age to attempt Ferber's sleep training method is around 6 months-old.
