Christophe Bassons (born 10 June 1974) is a French former professional road racing cyclist. His career ended when he spoke out about doping in the Tour de France. Origins Christophe Bassons was born in Mazamet, France, in the Tarn department. He started racing on the road in 1992 and won the Tour du Tarn et Garonne in 1995. That same year he won the world military time-trial championship and became national time-trial champion. Mazamet (; Languedocien dialect, Languedocien: ''Masamet'') is a Communes of France, commune in the Tarn (department), Tarn Departments of France, department in southern France. It is the second-largest component of the Castres-Mazamet metropolitan area. Geography Mazamet is situated on the northern slope of the Montagne Noire and on the Arnette, a small tributary of the Thoré, which forms the commune's northern border. Marie-George Buffet
Marie-George Buffet (née Kosellek; born 7 May 1949) is a French politician. She was the head of the French Communist Party (PCF) from 2001 to 2010. She joined the Party in 1969, and she served in the government as Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports from 4 June 1997 to 5 May 2002. Buffet was re-elected on 16 June 2002 to another five-year term in the National Assembly as a representative of Seine-Saint-Denis. The Fédération Française de Cyclisme (''FFC'') or French Cycling Federation is the national governing body of cycle racing in France. The FFC is a member of the UCI and the UEC. In February 2009, David Lappartient was elected for a four-year term as president. History The ''Union Vélocipédique Française'' (UVF) was the predecessor of the FFC. It was founded on 6 February 1881 in Paris at the ''Café Le Marengo'' by delegates of ten cycling clubs, who on the same day decided to create a national championship race of 10 km. Jean-Marie Leblanc
Jean-Marie Leblanc (born 27 July 1944) is a French retired professional road bicycle racer who was general director of the Tour de France from 1989 to 2007, when he reached pensionable age and was succeeded by Christian Prudhomme. Biography He became a professional cyclist in 1966 and rode until 1971. He gained his best results in criteriums, small tours, and single stage races, like the Grand Prix d'Aix-en-Provence (1968, 1st), the Circuit d'Armorique (1969, 1st), and the Four Days of Dunkirk (1970, 2nd). Afterwards, he became a sports journalist, working for L'Équipe. In 1989, Leblanc became general director of the Tour de France, replacing Xavier Louy. Under his aegis, the Tour was modernised, most notably with the abandonment of the red and combination jerseys. In a road Cycle sport, bicycle race, the peloton (, originally meaning ) is the main group or pack of riders. Riders in a group save energy by riding close (drafting (racing), drafting or slipstreaming) to (particularly behind) other riders. The reduction in drag (physics), drag is dramatic; riding in the middle of a well-developed group, drag can be reduced by as much as 95%.
