Christophe Auguin
Christophe Auguin, (born 10 December 1959 in Granville, Manche), is a French yachtsman. He is the only one sailor to have won three single-handled sailing races around the globe: the BOC Challenge twice (1990-1991 and 1994-1995) and the Vendée Globe (1996-1997). Granville, Manche
Granville (; Norman: ''Graunville'') is a commune in the Manche department and region of Normandy, northwestern France. The chef-lieu of the canton of Granville and seat of the ', it is a seaside resort and health resort of Mont Saint-Michel Bay, at the end of the ', a former cod-fishing port and the first shellfish port of France. BOC Challenge
The Velux 5 Oceans Race was a round-the-world single-handed yacht race, sailed in stages, managed by Clipper Ventures since 2000. Its most recent name comes from its main sponsor Velux. Originally known as the BOC Challenge, for the title sponsor BOC, the first edition was in 1982. In the late 1990s the race was renamed the Around Alone. After attracting just five entries in the 2010-11 race, the event has not been held since. Overview The race was established in 1982 as the ''BOC Challenge'', with main sponsorship from BOC. The race was inspired by the ''Golden Globe Race'', which was the first single-handed round-the-world yacht race. Although the ''Golden Globe'' was a non-stop race, the ''BOC Challenge'' concept was for a single-handed round-the-world race, to be run in stages (in contrast to the ''Vendée Globe'', which is non-stop). The Solitaire du Figaro, previously called the Course de l'Aurore, is a solo multi-stage sailing race created in 1970 by Jean-Louis Guillemard and . The unique character of the race, the presence of great solo sailors and its being open to amateurs, has made it one of the most cherished races in French sailing. History From 1970 to 1979 the race was organised by the newspaper ''L'Aurore''. In 1980 the daily newspaper ''Le Figaro'' bought out ''L'Aurore'' and became the principal sponsor of the event. From 2003, the eyewear company was an associate sponsor. The official name of the race became ''La Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro''. Since 2008, the motor manufacturer Suzuki replaced them, and the race became named ''La Solitaire du Figaro Suzuki''.
