Theodore Christianson (September 12, 1883December 9, 1948) was an American politician who served as the 21st Governor of Minnesota from January 6, 1925, until January 6, 1931. Early life and education Christianson was born in Lac qui Parle Township, Minnesota. He was of Norwegian descent. He attended Dawson High School. Christianson graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1906 and the University of Minnesota Law School in 1909. He was admitted to the Minnesota State Bar in 1909. Career Before entering politics, Christianson had pursued dual careers in western Minnesota, where he practiced law and was editor and publisher of the '' Dawson Sentinel'' for fifteen years. Born in Pekin, Illinois to Wilbert and Viola (née Strope) Andrae, she was a potato farmer, billing agent, and homemaker in Halstad, Minnesota. She married Marvin Christianson in February 1950. Her husband Marvin served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1967 until his death in 1969 from cancer. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as a Progressive Conservative from 1959 to 1962 and was a cabinet minister in the government of Dufferin Roblin. The Dakota Zoo is a zoo in Bismarck, North Dakota located on the banks of the Missouri River. It is the third zoo built in North Dakota. The Dakota Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). History The Dakota Zoo began on a farm owned by Marc and Betty Christianson on the northern edge of Bismarck. At first, the farm boarded domestic animals such as dogs, cats, and horses. At one point, the farm was used to raise mink for profit. Over time, people who knew of the Christiansons' love for animals began dropping off strays and injured animals, knowing that they would be well taken care of. As the number of animals increased, word got out and more and more people came to see them. After some publicity from a local TV station, petitions were signed by 780 people supporting the idea of a community zoo in Bismarck.
