Christian Götz
Christian Götz (25 January 1940 – 25 July 2000) was a German trade unionist and politician. He was an executive board member of the Trade, Banking and Insurance Union (HBV; now Ver.di) from 1980 to 1992. Biography Götz was born on 25 January 1940 in Leer. His father was a lock keeper. He attended schools in Leer and Ostfriesland from 1946 to 1954. He then worked in Leer's local government from 1954 to 1959. Götz volunteered for the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) and Young Socialists in the SPD, becoming chairman in 1958 and a federal committee member. He performed military service from 1960 to 1963. He then served as a consultant in the SPD parliament assisted by Fritz Erler. He answered questions about the Bundeswehr's "Inner guidance". Götz served as Federal Youth Secretary of the Trade, Banking, and Insurance Union in Düsseldorf from 1963 to 1971. Leer, Lower Saxony
Leer () is a town in the district of Leer (district), Leer, in the northwestern part of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the river Leda, a tributary of the river Ems (river), Ems, near the border with the Netherlands. With 34,958 inhabitants (2021), it is the third-largest city in East Frisia after Emden and Aurich. Air France Flight 4590
On 25 July 2000, Air France Flight 4590, a Concorde passenger jet on an international charter flight from Paris to New York, crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all 109 people on board and four on the ground. It was the only fatal Concorde accident during its 27-year operational history. Whilst taking off from Charles de Gaulle Airport, Air France Flight 4590 ran over debris on the runway dropped by an aircraft during the preceding departure, causing a tyre to explode and disintegrate. Tyre fragments, launched upwards at great speed by the rapidly spinning wheel, violently struck the underside of the wing, damaging parts of the landing gear – thus preventing its retraction – and causing the integral fuel tank to rupture. Heinz Oskar Vetter
Heinz Oskar Vetter (21 October 1917 – 18 October 1990) was a German trade union leader and politician. Born in Bochum, Vetter completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith, before becoming a machinist at a coal mine. He served in the Luftwaffe during World War II, before returning to mining. He joined the Union of Mining and Energy (IG BE), and became a union representative, working full-time for the union from 1952. In 1953, he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany. In 1960, Vetter was elected to the executive of IG BE, and in 1964 he became its vice-president. In 1969, he left, to become president of the German Trade Union Confederation, serving until 1982.
