Stolen by Thomas Lodge from the library of the Jesuits, Jesuit college of Santos, São Paulo, Santos in 1591, it is currently housed in the Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford, cataloged as "MS. Bodl. 617". It was composed between 1549 and 1591, a period spanning from the arrival of the to the theft of the manuscript and its subsequent transportation to England.
