Chrissie Mughogho
Dr. Chrissie Chawanje-Mughogho is a Malawian former Ambassador of Malawi to India, Bangladesh, Angola, and Zambia She is a professor by training who rose up the education administration ranks at the University of Malawi. There she served as the first female dean of the faculty of Sciences at the University of Malawi. Mughogho was born in Chidzinja village in the Tyolo, in the southern region of Malawi. She is mother to musician Real Elements#Stix/Linguistix (Jerome Kalinani), David Kalilani. Mughoho was a Fulbright Scholar who graduated from Virginia Tech, Virginia Polytechinic and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1998 with a PhD in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise. She then moved back to Malawi where she worked in academia at the University of Malawi. She soon rose up the ranks becoming the first dean of applied sciences who was a woman at the university. The Real Elements is a Malawian hip-hop band that gained notoriety in the 1990s and 2000s in Malawi. The group consisted of Marvel, Plan B, Stix, and Q. The group holds a special place in the Malawian music industry because it propagated Malawian hip-hop and paved the way for the Malawian hip-hop genre at a time when they were a few hip-hop artists in Malawi. Their music was considered the cutting edge in the Malawi music scene. Critics argue that is the best urban group that has come out of Malawi. They performed in Malawi and their music was also featured on Channel O beaming Malawian hip-hop for the first time to a Pan African audience.
