Chris Thompson (athlete)
Christopher Thompson (born 17 April 1981) is a British long-distance runner, who won the silver medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2010 European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, on 27 July 2010 behind his compatriot Mo Farah. Prior to his 2010 medal win he had won the 2003 European Athletics U23 Championships, European U23 5000 m Championship in 2003. However he was initially unable to build on this victory, as he had substantial injury problems for a number of years. He is currently coached by Alan Storey. Thompson ran at the 2010 Great Yorkshire Run in September and came close to victory, but was edged out by a second by Australian Craig Mottram. He took on top African runners at the Athletics at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2010 Commonwealth Games, but he could not repeat his podium performance of Barcelona; he finished in fifth place behind Ugandan winner Moses Kipsiro and the Kenyan team, making him the top non-African performer in the event. Great Yorkshire Run
The Great Yorkshire Run is an annual 10K run road race previously held in September in Sheffield City Centre, England, and now held in July in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. It is a part of the Great Run series of events, and as such is linked with the Great North Run. It was run for the first time in 2007, and was run over a weekend, with the mini (3–8-year-olds) race at 2 km and the Junior (9–14-year-olds) race at 3 km taking place on 6 September at Don Valley Stadium, with the full 10 km Great Yorkshire Run taking place on the Sunday. Haile Gebrselassie (; born 18 April 1973) is an Ethiopian former Long-distance running, long-distance track running, track, road running athlete, and businessman. He won two Olympic gold medals and four World Athletics Championships, World Championship titles over the 10,000 metres. Moses Ndiema Kipsiro (born 2 September 1986 in Singare) is a Ugandan long-distance runner who specialises in the 5000 metres. He was the bronze medallist in the event at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. He represented Uganda at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, coming fourth over 5000 m. Kipsiro has won medals in the 5000 m at the African Championships in Athletics and the All-Africa Games. He completed a 5000/10,000 metres double at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The Athletics (sport), athletics competition at the 2010 Commonwealth Games was held in New Delhi, India between 6 and 14 October.
