Chris Tallentire
Christopher John Tallentire (born 11 October 1963) is an Australian politician. He has been a Labor Party member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since the 2008 state election, representing Gosnells until 2017 and Thornlie thereafter. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Members are elected using the preferential voting system. As with all other Australian states and territories, voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens over the legal voting age of 18. Gosnells was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia. It was in existence from 1977 to 1989 and from 2008 to 2017. The seat was named after the suburb of Gosnells, and was located in Perth's southeastern suburbs. Gosnells was a safe seat for the Labor Party for most of its existence. Thornlie is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia. It is located in Perth's southeastern suburbs, and is named after the suburb of Thornlie. Thornlie was first created for the 1989 state election. It was abolished in a redistribution prior to the 2005 election, but was recreated for the 2017 election to replace the abolished seat of Gosnells. When Thornlie recreated it had a notional 1.8-point majority for the Labor Party (based on the results of the 2013 election), and was considered a marginal seat. 2008 Western Australian State Election
The 2008 Western Australian state election was held on Saturday 6 September 2008 to elect 59 members to the Legislative Assembly and 36 members to the Legislative Council. The incumbent centre-left Labor Party government, in power since the 2001 election and led since 25 January 2006 by Premier Alan Carpenter, was defeated by the centre-right Liberal Party opposition, led by Opposition Leader Colin Barnett since 6 August 2008. The election resulted in a hung parliament with no party gaining a majority. Labor was two seats short of a majority in the expanded legislature. Ultimately, the Liberals were able to form a coalition government with the WA Nationals, supported by three independents. The Conservation Council of Western Australia is the umbrella body for conservation groups and organisations in Western Australia. It has been the co-ordinator, publisher and guiding body for issues of woodchipping in the South West of Western Australia, the logging of old growth forests, as well as providing input into government processes involved with all aspects of environmental protection and conservation. Its origins were closely related to the Perth-based - ''Environment Centre of W.A.'', and the development and success of the environmental movement also saw subsequent development of the regional environment centres in Denmark, Albany, Margaret River and Busselton.
