Christopher Charles Pappas ( ; born June 4, 1980) is an American politician who has served as the United States House of Representatives, U.S. representative from New Hampshire's 1st congressional district since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, Pappas previously served on the New Hampshire Executive Council from 2013 to 2019. Pappas is the first openly gay man to represent New Hampshire in Congress and is currently the only man in United States congressional delegations from New Hampshire, the state's congressional delegation. His district covers much of the southern and eastern parts of New Hampshire and includes the state's largest city, Manchester, New Hampshire, Manchester, as well as the Seacoast Region (New Hampshire), Seacoast and the Lakes Region (New Hampshire), Lakes Region. Christopher "Chris" John Pappas (born 26 August 1991) is a South African politician who is the mayor of the uMngeni Local Municipality. A member of the Democratic Alliance, he served as party's deputy provincial leader from 2021 until 2023. Pappas served as a member of the eThekwini city council from 2016 until 2019 and as a DA Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 2019 to 2021. In September 2023, Pappas was included on the " TIME100 Next list" by Time magazine. He was his party's candidate for the premiership of KwaZulu-Natal in the country's 2024 election. Chris Pappas is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'', played by James Mason. Mason originally read for the role of Andrew Robinson, before he was called back to audition for Chris three days later. He was told during the audition that the character would be gay. He began filming his first scenes in October 2009, and he made his first appearance during the episode broadcast on 25 February 2010. Executive producer Susan Bower said the character was created because of requests from young viewers in the ''Neighbours'' website's online forums. The character's sexuality storyline was also based on the real life experiences of the show's writers. Chris became the first prominent, regular male homosexual character in the show's twenty-five-year history.
