Chris Erwin
Christopher Bell Erwin (born April 26, 1962) is an American politician. He is affiliated with the Republican Party, and was elected a member of the Georgia House of Representatives in 2018. Erwin represents the 28th district, which covers the entirety of Banks County and Stephens County, as well as the eastern region of Habersham County in northeast Georgia. Pre-political career Before becoming a representative, Erwin was a business director for Carroll Daniel Construction Company, and a school administrator in Carroll and Henry counties. He was the superintendent of the Banks County School System for eleven years. Erwin was named Banks County Citizen of the Year in 2006, and was voted Georgia School Superintendent of the Year in 2013. Brian Porter Kemp (born November 2, 1963) is an American businessman and politician serving as the 83rd governor of Georgia since January 2019. A member of the Republican Party, Kemp served as the 27th secretary of state of Georgia from 2010 to 2018, and as a member of the Georgia State Senate from 2003 to 2007. Born in Athens, Georgia, Kemp is a graduate of the University of Georgia. Before entering politics, he owned several agribusinesses, financial services, and real estate companies. Alan Tinsley Powell (born November 10, 1951) is an American politician who has served in the Georgia House of Representatives since 1991. He was originally elected as a Democrat, but switched to a Republican in 2010, citing his conservative views. Tenure He supported the Election Integrity Act of 2021, a Republican-supported law to restrict voting rights in Georgia. Among its many provisions, it would restrict where ballot drop boxes can be located and when they can be accessed, require photo identification for absentee voting, shift back the deadline to request an absentee ballot, limit early voting hours, and prevent anyone other than poll workers from giving food and water to voters standing in lines. Most controversially, it would restrict early voting on Sundays, when Black churches traditionally run "Souls to the Polls" get-out-the-vote efforts. 2018 Georgia Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, concurrently with other statewide and local elections to elect the next governor of the U.S. state of Georgia. Republican Secretary of State Brian Kemp won the election, defeating Democratic former State Representative Stacey Abrams. The primary elections were held on May 22, 2018, and a primary runoff was held on July 24, 2018, between Republican candidates Kemp and Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle; Kemp prevailed. Incumbent Republican Governor Nathan Deal was term-limited and thus could not seek re-election to a third consecutive term.
