Chris Appel (artist)
Chris Appel is a retired American basketball player. He is known for his All-American college career at the University of Southern California. Appel came to USC from Hollywood High School in Hollywood, Los Angeles. He came into his own in his sophomore year, averaging 13.4 points per game, lifting the Trojans into the 1961 NCAA tournament, and joining teammate John Rudometkin as a unanimous first-team all-conference choice. As a senior, Appel repeated on the all-conference team and was named a second-team All-American by the Sporting News magazine. Guard (basketball)
In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. Over time, as more specialized roles developed, each of the guards and forwards came to be differentiated, and today each of the five positions are known by unique names, each of which has also been assigned a number: point guard (PG) or 1, the shooting guard (SG) or 2, the small forward (SF) or 3, the power forward (PF) or 4, and the center (C) or 5. 1962 NBA Draft
The 1962 NBA draft was the 16th annual draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on March 26, 1962, before the 1962–63 season. In this draft, nine NBA teams took turns selecting amateur U.S. college basketball players. A player who had finished his four-year college eligibility was eligible for selection. If a player left college early, he would not be eligible for selection until his college class graduated. In each round, the teams selected in reverse order of their won–loss record in the previous season. Before the draft, a team could forfeit its first-round draft pick, then select any player from within a 50-mile radius of its home arena as their territorial pick. The Chicago Packers, who finished last in the previous season, were renamed the Chicago Zephyrs.
