Chonga
Chonga is a Spanish-derived term used especially in South Florida, often to indicate a working-class, sexually liberated, very sassy, and emotionally expressive young woman. Chongas are also a distinct subculture, believed to have developed in Miami in the late 20th century. Members are typically young, working-class Hispanic women. In South Florida the term is usually considered a pejorative, though some young women are proud to identify themselves as such. While feminist scholarship on chongas is limited, early work by gender studies scholar Jillian Hernandez has suggested that the chonga identity is an "emerging icon", and that it can be empowering for working-class women. Kasey Avalos (born March 19, 1992), known professionally as La Goony Chonga, is a Cuban-American rapper. While in college, she posted videos of her freestyling on YouTube and began recording music. She released her first two studio albums, ''Santeria Pussy'' (2013) and ''Santeria Pussy 2'' (2015), after dropping out of school. After working as a stripper for three years in Miami, she moved to Los Angeles to record and release her first Spanish-language album, ''Dinero'' (2018), followed by her first full-length album, ''Dimen5ión'' (2019). Chongalicious
Chongalicious is a 2007 homemade music video performed by Laura DiLorenzo and Mimi Davila (both born in 1990), who were drama students at Dr. Michael M. Krop High School in Unincorporated north Miami-Dade County. The song is a parody of Fergie's 2006 hit song " Fergalicious." It focuses on the term "chonga," a slang term first coined in Miami-Dade County describing a stereotypical way of dressing and behaving among working class Latin American women in Hialeah, Florida. The video was filmed on a digital photo camera and the music and vocals were later recorded with a simple microphone on a computer. Radio station Power 96 said that it was one of their most requested songs after being discovered on YouTube. The singers said that they "didn't expect it to be this big." Luis Gispert
Luis Gispert (born Jersey City, New Jersey, United States, 1972) is an American sculptor and photographer, living and working in Brooklyn, New York. Gispert earned an MFA at Yale University in 2001, a BFA in Film from Art Institute of Chicago in 1996, and attended Miami Dade College from 1990 to 1992. Luis Gispert creates art through a wide range of media, including photographs, film, sounds, and sculptures, focusing upon hip-hop, youth culture, and Cuban-American history. Some of his sculptures incorporate objects identified with hip hop, such as turntables, chrome tire rims, and boom boxes, into functional designs usable in other manners, such as furniture. ''Ghetto fabulous'' is a lifestyle expression that originated among African American communities living in poor urban areas. In the media Ghetto fabulous is a fashion stereotype alluding to individuals living in an affluent materialistic style while not always having any luxurious possessions or wealth. As a comedic device, it often dramatizes and draws attention to life in the ghetto. For example, in the motion picture ''B*A*P*S'' (or Black American Princesses), the protagonists pretend to belong to an upper-economic class, but in reality they live a lifestyle that is full of superficial glamour.
