Chom Phon
The Thai rank of Field Marshal () is the most senior rank of the Royal Thai Army. The rank was formally created in 1888 together with all other ranks of the military by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who wanted to modernize his armed forces along Western lines. There have been 13 appointments to this rank. The rank has not been awarded since 1992 and its abolition has been proposed by the Thai government in 2018. Plaek Phibunsongkhram was the first commoner to hold this rank. The Royal Thai Navy equivalent is known as '' Chom Phon Ruea'' ('Admiral of the Fleet') and '' Chom Phon Akat'' ('Marshal of the Royal Thai Air Force') for the Royal Thai Air Force. Surasakmontri
Chaophraya Surasakmontri (28 March 1851 – 1 July 1931), born as Choem Saeng-chuto, was a Thai field marshal, nobleman, and businessman. He was best known in Haw wars campaign. He served as Commander of the Department of the Army from 1890 to 1892, and as Minister of Agriculture afterwards. He established a sawmill in Si Racha in 1900. The city of Chaophraya Surasak in Chonburi is named after him. Biography Chaophraya Surasakmontri was born in 1851 in Thonburi, Rattanakosin Kingdom, to his father Phraya Surasakmontri (Sang Chuto) and mother Doem Bunnak. He is the grandson of Phraya Surasena (Sawat Chuto). As a child, he received education at Wat Phichai Yat until the age of 13. Marshal-Admiral Paribatra Sukhumbandhu, Prince of Nakhon Sawan (; Thai: สมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ เจ้าฟ้าบริพัตรสุขุมพันธุ์ กรมพระนครสวรรค์วรพินิต) (1881–1944), was a highly influential Thai military officer and government minister in the early 20th century during the last years of the absolute monarchy. Chaophraya Bodindechanuchit (), personal name Mom Rajawongse Arun Chatrakul (, 14 April 1856 – 25 August 1921), was a Royal Siamese Army officer who served as Minister of War under King Vajiravudh from 1914 to 1921. Biography Mom Rajawongse Arun Chatrakul was born on 14 April 1856 and began military service in the royal guards in 1872 as a private assigned to the 6th Regiment and was promoted to private 1st class and then corporal of the 5th Regiment. In 1878, he transferred to an artillery regiment. On 9 April 1889, Arun became adjutant of the cadet school division while being promoted to captain. In 1892, he became commander of the cadet school, and on 4 October of the same year, was promoted to major. The Siamese Expeditionary Forces () (also known as Siamese Volunteer Corps) consisted of the Royal Siamese Army sent to Europe under the command of Major General Phraya Thephatsadin in 1917 to help the Allies of World War I, Triple Entente fight in World War I. Background Siam's decision to declare war was a shrewd political move, but there were precedents from other non-European small states. The decision to send an expeditionary force to Europe, however, was radical. It was designed to demonstrate both Siam's modernity and civilization to Western world, the West and the seriousness with which King Rama VI and elite viewed the need to uphold the principles of international law and morality. Chakrabongse Bhuvanath
Chakrabongse Bhuvanath (; ; 3 March 1883 – 13 June 1920), was the 40th child of King Chulalongkorn and the fourth child of Queen Sri Bajarindra. Early life and education The prince was sent to the Russian Empire in his teens, where he studied at the Page Corps and became an officer of His Majesty's Hussar Life Guards Regiment. Family He returned to Siam with a wife, Catherine Desnitski from Lutsk (at that time part of the Russian Empire, nowadays part of Ukraine), whom he had married in 1906.
