Chollian-2A
Chollian-2A, also known as GEO-KOMPSAT-2A (Geostationary Korea Multi Purpose Satellite-2A), is a weather satellite of South Korea, launched on December 4, 2018. It is a twin satellite with Chollian-2B. Development The ''Geostationary Composite Satellite Development Project'' for the self-reliance of geostationary satellite development technology was conducted from July 2011 to October 2020. The design, assembly, and testing of the main body were all done with domestic technology, and through this, the technology for geostationary satellites was secured. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Meteorological Administration supported the development of the system and main body of the satellite with a total project cost of 325.2 billion won. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute, the main research institute, has been designing the satellite system through analysis of the system requirements of each ministry since March 2012. Satellite assembly began in April 2016, and vario ...

Chollian-2B
Chollian-2B, also known as GEO-KOMPSAT-2B (Geostationary Korea Multi Purpose Satellite-2B), is a geostationary satellite of South Korea, launched on February 18, 2020. It is a twin satellite of Chollian-2A. It can precisely observe the movement of Fine dust-causing substances in the atmosphere. Development Chollian-2A and 2B were developed as follow-up satellites to Chollian, which was launched in 2010. They were developed over a period of nine years, starting in 2011, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Environment (South Korea), Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. 386.7 billion won was invested in the development of 2A, and 318 billion won was invested in the that of 2B. While Chollian, launched in 2010, carried a variety of payloads for meteorological, oceanographic, and communications purposes and played a variety of roles, Chollian-2A and Chollian-2B were designed to focus on their own unique missions: meteorol ...

Chollian
Chollian, () also known as Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite 1 (COMS-1), was a South Korean satellite which was launched on 26 June 2010 and began operations on 1 April 2011. It was operated by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, who used it for communication, oceanography, and meteorological observation. COMS-1 was constructed by EADS Astrium, and was based on the Eurostar-3000S satellite bus, bringing together lessons learned from Eurostar satellites and NASA-made GOES satellites respectively. It had a mass of , and carried transponders broadcasting in the D/ E and K bands of the NATO-defined spectrum, or the L/ S and Ka bands of the IEEE-defined spectrum respectively. Its single solar array generated a minimum of 2.5 kilowatts of power. COMS-1 was launched by Arianespace using an Ariane 5 ECA carrier rocket lifting off from ELA-3 at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana. The first launch attempt occurred on 23 June 2010; the launch was sc ...

South Korean Space Program
The South Korean space program began in earnest in the 1980s when research on space development began. Korea Aerospace Research Institute was established in October 1989, and the Korea AeroSpace Administration was established in May 2024. The medium-lift launch vehicle Nuri is specialized for low-Earth orbit satellites weighing 1.9 t or less, and the KSLV-III, currently under development and scheduled for its first launch in 2030, is specialized for inserting large satellites into geocentric orbit, Earth orbit and launching lunar or Mars probes. Based on the various data sent back by the lunar probe Danuri, which has been on a mission since 2022, a map of the moon were created. Danuri and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute also exchanged messages through the space internet payload. History The Space Science and Technology Development Plan, prepared by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute under the contract of the Ministry of Science and IC ...

Earth Observation Satellite
An Earth observation satellite or Earth remote sensing satellite is a satellite used or designed for Earth observation (EO) from orbit, including spy satellites and similar ones intended for non-military uses such as environmental monitoring, meteorology, cartography and others. The most common type are Earth imaging satellites, that take satellite images, analogous to aerial photographs; some EO satellites may perform remote sensing without forming pictures, such as in GNSS radio occultation. The first occurrence of satellite remote sensing can be dated to the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957. Sputnik 1 sent back radio signals, which scientists used to study the ionosphere. The United States Army Ballistic Missile Agency launched the first American satellite, Explorer 1, for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory on January 31, 1958. The information sent back from its radiation detector led to the discovery of the Earth's Van ...

Arianespace SA is a French company founded in March 1980 as the world's first commercial launch service provider. It operates two launch vehicles: Vega C, a small-lift rocket, and Ariane 6, a medium-to- heavy-lift rocket. Arianespace is a subsidiary of ArianeGroup, a joint venture between Airbus and Safran. European space launches are carried out as a collaborative effort between private companies and government agencies. The role of Arianespace is to market Ariane 6 launch services, prepare missions, and manage customer relations. At the Guiana Space Centre (CSG) in French Guiana, the company oversees the team responsible for integrating and preparing launch vehicles. The rockets themselves are designed and manufactured by other companies: ArianeGroup for the Ariane 6 and Avio for the Vega. The launch infrastructure at the CSG is owned by the European Space Agency, while the land itself belongs to and is managed by CNES, the French national space agency. , Arianespace had la ...
