Choe Chun Sik (최춘식, born 12 October 1954) was the leader of the North Korean Second Academy of Natural Sciences. Second Academy Of Natural Sciences
The Academy of National Defense Science (), formerly Second Academy of Natural Sciences (), is a North Korean organization involved in the North Korean missile program, including the Hwasong-14. It is based in Pyongyang, and currently headed by Colonel General Jang Chang-ha. It has been sanctioned by the United States government, and subject to export controls in relations to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2270. History In 2010, it was known as the Second Academy of Natural Sciences. Naval warfare The Academy is also responsible for developing naval vessels and weapons, and has a Maritime Research Institute, headquartered at the Sinpo South Shipyard. Hero Of The Republic
Hero of the Republic () is a North Korean honorific title. It was created on 30 June 1950 as Hero of the Korean People's Republic (). It was the first title created in the country. Despite having been created just five days after the Korean War broke out, the connection seems incidental. 533 people were awarded Hero of the Republic during the war, and many more since then. Since there is no agreed upon order of precedence of North Korean titles, orders, and medals, it is not possible to definitively establish the rank of Hero of the Republic. According to Yonhap's ''North Korea Handbook'', Hero of the Republic ranks below the Order of Kim Il-sung but above the Hero of Labor. Martin Weiser, however, ranks Hero of Labor the highest. The medal was designed by Jong Chon-pa, who also designed the Hero of Labor, Order of the National Flag and others, including the Emblem of North Korea. Kwangmyŏngsŏng-3
Kwangmyŏngsŏng-3 () was a North Korean Earth observation satellite which, according to the DPRK, was for weather forecast purposes, and whose launch was widely portrayed in the West to be a veiled ballistic missile test. The satellite was launched on 13 April 2012 at 07:39 KST aboard the Unha-3 carrier rocket from Sohae Satellite Launching Station. The rocket exploded 90 seconds after launch near the end of the firing of the first stage of the rocket. The launch was planned to mark the centenary of the birth of Kim Il-sung, the founder of the republic. On 1 December 2012 North Korea announced that a replacement satellite would be launched between 10 and 22 December 2012. After a delay and extending the launch window to 29 December, the rocket was launched on 12 December.
