Zeya (Burmese Actor)
Zeya ( my, ဇေယျ ; 12 June 1916 – 7 October 1996) was a Burmese Academy Award winning film actor and director. He was also a famous body builder. Biography Zeya was born Hla Maung in Nyaunggon village in Upper Burma during the British colonial rule. The 8th of 10 siblings, Zeya left school only third grade to help out with his parents' plantation. He married Than Tin, the daughter of a Mandalay jewellery merchant. They would have nine children. Zeya became a professional body builder. At age 27, Zeya won the Zeyar Maung (Mr. Zeyar) title in 1943 given by Sagaing Body Building Association. In 1946, he won Shwe Man Maung (Mr. Golden Mandalay). Zeya made film debut in 1946. In 1956, he won the Burmese Academy Award in ''Bawa Thanthaya'' (Life's Samsara). Kyi Kyi Htay
Kyi Kyi Htay ( my, ကြည်ကြည်ဌေး, ; 19 March 1924 – 4 March 2000) was the first winning actress of the Myanmar Academy Award for the Best Female Artiste Award (now Best Actress Award) in 1952. Being a versatile actress in the golden Burmese film world, she was awarded the title ''Wunna Kyawhtin'' by the government. Early life Kyi Kyi Htay was born in a small town of Letbadan in Bago Division in Lower Burma to U Po Yin and Daw Ohn Kywe. She was the youngest among five siblings. Her original name was Ma Thein Kyin. Career Kyi Kyi Htay took part in Burmese traditional opera, Zat Thabin, since her childhood and became famous under the name Aung Mya Kyin, Auk Chin Ma and Marla Yi. She crossed over to films in 1952, and won her first Burmese Academy Award with her debut film Chit Thet-Wai. She won three more Academy Awards in 1956, 1970 and 1978. The Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards are presented annually to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Burmese Film Industry of Myanmar. The awards ceremony has been held annually since 1952. Each winner is presented with a golden statue and in recent years also a cash prize. History The awards were first introduced in 1952, and the ceremony has been held annually since 1952 (apart from 1963, 1986, 1987, and 1988).
