Chirodectes
''Chirodectes'' is a very rare, monospecific genus of box jellyfish in the family Chirodropidae. The first and only scientifically studied specimen was captured from the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef – about off the coast of northeast Queensland – on 2 May 1997. It was found within of the surface, and the researchers who first described it speculated that it may have been relocated to the area by Cyclone Justin. Its bell measured approximately in height, and it could only be observed for several hours in an examination lab due to how delicate it was. There are no recorded cases of a human sting from ''Chirodectes'' as it "failed either to sting, or adhere to, the hand and forearm of an incautious volunteer" during the examination, but it is assumed – due to its relatively large size and to the extremely venomous nature of some chirodropids – that ''Chirodectes'' is itself venomous. Chirodropidae
Chirodropidae is a family of venomous box jellyfish within the class Cubozoa. Like other members of the order Chirodropida, they have branched pedalia (muscular bases at the corners of their cubic umbrella), in contrast to the unbranched pedalia of box jellyfish in the order Carybdeida. Each branch houses its own individual tentacle. Nematocyst composition and type can vary among individuals within this family based on body size and life stage. Like other box jellyfish, chirodropids can be found in coastal and shallow marine areas, but they have also been found to occur at benthic depths. Cyclone Justin
Cyclone Justin was a tropical cyclone of the 1996–97 Australian region cyclone season that caused seven deaths and had a major economic impact in northern Queensland, Australia. It had a long -week life from 6 March to 24 March 1997. Peaking as a Category 3 cyclone and making landfall as a Category 2, it caused significant damage in the Cairns region, which it approached on two occasions. Houses were undermined by huge waves, a marina and boats were severely damaged, roads and bridges suffered from flood and landslide damage and huge losses were inflicted on sugar cane, fruit and vegetable crops. The death toll in Queensland was seven including five on a yacht which sank. There were 26 who died in Papua New Guinea, which was also severely affected.
