Ben Chipman
Ben Chipman is an American Democratic politician from Maine. He is a member of the Maine Senate representing District 27, comprising part of Portland, Maine. Chipman served in the Maine House of Representatives from December 2010 until December 2016 as an independent, and since December 2016 he has served as a member of the Maine Senate as a Democrat. Early life and education Chipman earned a degree in liberal arts from the University of Maine in 1997. His professional experience includes working as a community organizer and as a legislative aide, and as of 2018 he was working as an independent notary for real estate closings. Political career Chipman worked as an aide in the Office of the Clerk at the Maine State House beginning in 2002. Nathaniel Chipman
Nathaniel Chipman (November 15, 1752February 13, 1843) was an American politician who served as a United States Senator from Vermont and Chief Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court. A Yale College graduate and Continental Army veteran of the American Revolution, Chipman became a prominent attorney and advocate for Vermont statehood. When Vermont was admitted to the Union, he served as the first judge of the United States District Court for the District of Vermont. After Vermont became the fourteenth state, Chipman became a leader of its Federalist Party. In addition to his legal and political work, Chipman authored several works on government and law, served for 28 years as Professor of Law at Middlebury College, and was a satirical poet. Chipman is a community in Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023 and is now part of the village of Grand Lake. The community of Chipman is located on the banks of the Salmon River at the head of the Grand Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the Maritime provinces. The village itself is located around 73.4 kilometres from the capital city of Fredericton. History Chipman is named after Ward Chipman Jr. (1787-1851), who served as Chief Justice of New Brunswick from 1834 to 1851. The village of Chipman was founded in 1835, and was made up of portions of the older parishes of Brunswick and Canning. The first settler in what would become the Parish of Chipman was Alexander McClure of County Tyrone, who arrived in 1820 with his wife, Mary McLeod and their five daughters. It is located on Highway 15, approximately 11 km (7 mi) southeast of Lamont, 22 km (14 mi) northwest of Mundare, 70 km (44 mi) east of Edmonton, and 30 km (18 mi) northeast of the Yellowhead Highway entrance to Elk Island National Park. Ward Chipman (July 30, 1754 – February 9, 1824) was a New Brunswick lawyer, judge, and political figure. He briefly served as administrator for New Brunswick from 1823 until his death in 1824. Early life He was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts in 1754 and studied at Harvard College. He taught school in Boston, then articled in law with Jonathan Sewall. He practiced law in the Vice-Admiralty Court and also was a clerk-solicitor in the Boston customhouse. However, he remained loyal to Kingdom of Great Britain, Britain during the American Revolution and withdrew to City of Halifax, Halifax and then London. In 1777, he became deputy to muster master general Edward Winslow (loyalist), Edward Winslow; at the same time, he was admitted to the bar in New York (state), New York and resided for a time in Staten Island. Samuel Chipman
Samuel Chipman (October 18, 1790 – November 10, 1891) was a farmer, ship owner, merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented King's County from 1830 to 1843, Cornwallis Township from 1851 to 1859 and King's County from 1851 to 1863 in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. He was born in Cornwallis Township, Nova Scotia, the son of William Allen Chipman and Ann Osborn. In 1815, he married Elizabeth Gesner, sister of Abraham Gesner. He married Jessie W. Hardy in 1841 after the death of his first wife. Chipman served in the local militia and was also a freemason. He received a number of appointments to patronage posts in King's County and Annapolis County over the years. In 1863, he was named to the province's Legislative Council and served until 1870, when he was named registrar of deeds for King's County. He retired from that post at the age of 98.
