The Chinese Society of Astronautics (; abbreviated CSA) is a professional association of individuals with an interest in space. As of 2019, the society has 38 specialized committees and 179 working committees with more than 30,000 individual members. History The initial concept of the Chinese Society of Astronautics was proposed in 1977 and accepted by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). Lei Fanpei
Lei Fanpei (; born May 1963) is a Chinese executive and politician who served as chairman of the board of China Shipbuilding Group from 2018 to 2022. Previously he served as chairman of the board of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. He was a representative of the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. He is a representative of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party and a member of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. Biography Lei was born in Heyang County, Shaanxi, in May 1963. In 1980, he enrolled at Northwestern Polytechnical University where he received his bachelor's degree in 1984 and his master's degree in 1987 both in rocket engine. Qian Xuesen
Qian Xuesen, or Hsue-Shen Tsien (; 11 December 1911 – 31 October 2009), was a Chinese mathematician, cyberneticist, aerospace engineer, and physicist who made significant contributions to the field of aerodynamics and established engineering cybernetics. Recruited from MIT, he joined Theodore von Kármán's group at Caltech. During the Second Red Scare, in the 1950s, the US federal government accused him of communist sympathies. In 1950, despite protests by his colleagues, he was stripped of his security clearance. He decided to return to mainland China, but he was detained at Terminal Island, near Los Angeles. After spending five years under house arrest, he was released in 1955 in exchange for the repatriation of American pilots who had been captured during the Korean War. Zhang Zhenhuan (general)
Zhang Zhenhuan (; 21 October 1915 – 23 March 1994) was a general and political leader in the People's Republic of China. In his retirement, he was the founder and director of the China Qigong Science Research Society (CQRS), and was a notable proponent and defender of ''qigong'' during the 1980s and early 1990s. Life and government Zhang was from Beijing. In 1935, he was part of a protest of Japanese occupation, the "129 event". In 1938, he joined the Communist Party of China. He was a political leader and military officer during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War. Later he served as Director of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission of the People's Republic of China and earned the rank of general. The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST; ) is a mass organization of Chinese scientists and engineers, which is composed of multiple national professional societies and hundreds of branches at various local and international levels. CAST was formed in September 1958 through the merger of the All-China Federation of Natural Science Societies and the All-China Association for Science Popularization. Its stated goal is to act as a link between the science and technology community and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and government. The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is an international space advocacy organization based in Paris, and founded in 1951 as a non-governmental organization to establish a dialogue between scientists around the world and to lay the information for international space cooperation.
