The districts of Peru () are the third-level country subdivisions of Peru. They are subdivisions of the provinces of Peru, provinces, which in turn are subdivisions of the larger regions of Peru, regions or departments. There are 1,838 districts in total. Overview A 1982 law requires a minimum of residents in an area for a new district to be legally established: 3,500 if it is located in the rainforest, 4,000 in the Andes highlands and 10,000 in the Chala, coastal area. In the dry Andean area, many districts have less than 3,500 inhabitants due to low population density in the area. In some cases, their populations have decreased in comparison to the days when they were founded. Districts that are located at very high altitudes tend to be scarcely populated. Peru 2005 Census
# The 2005 Peru Census was a detailed enumeration of the Peruvian population. It was conducted by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática from July 18 through August 20, 2005. Its full name in Spanish is ''X Censo de Población y V de Vivienda'' ("Tenth Population and Fifth Household Census"). The previous census performed in Peru was the 1993 Census. The following census was the 2007 Census. The results of the census were released to the public on November 30, 2005, after all the census materials from the country's 25 regions were transported to Arequipa and processed at the INEI information processing center in that city. Administrative Divisions Of Peru
The administrative divisions of Peru have changed from time to time since the nation gained independence from Spain in the early 19th century. The old territorial subdivisions have split or merged due to several reasons, the most common ones being the need for decentralization and population increase, especially in Lima. History Peru was divided into 24 departments (''departamentos''; singular: ''departamento'') until the creation of the regions in 2002. These regions are governed by Regional Governments. Many people still use the old ''departamentos'' term when referring to the current regions of Peru, although it is now obsolete. The departments were identical to today's regions, with the exception of two new regions (Callao and Lima). Hacienda San José (hotel)
The Hacienda San José is located in the District of El Carmen District, Chincha, El Carmen, in the Province of Chincha Province, Chincha, in the Region of Ica Region, Ica, Peru. During a period, this manor house had one of the richest plantations in Chincha, with around 1000 slaves working on its fields. The hacienda suffered great damage after the 2007 Peru earthquake that hit the central Peruvian coast on August 15, 2007. The hotel reopened for guests in 2012. History The first news about San José Manor House dates back to 1688 when Rosa Josepha de Muñatones y Aguado married Don Andrés Salazar. As a dowry, she brought into the marriage the Manor House, its church and farmland on the Chincha Valley. It was transformed into a sugar plantation that held 87 black slaves. Sugarcane yielded two of the sweetest and most valued products in those times: sugar and honey. Chincha Alta is a Peruvian city located in the Ica Region. A major port at the mouth of the Chincha River, it is the capital of Chincha Province. The city has a population of about 233,000, making it the 17th largest city in Peru.
