China Railways ND2
ND2 is the name for a Romanian diesel-electric locomotive, produced by Electroputere, exported to and employed in China by China Railway. It was made for the purpose of heavy transport. History ND2 is a derivative of LDE2100 (060DA) locomotive. The Chinese Ministry of Railways started importing this locomotive in 1974 under a barter arrangement to fill a gap in the domestic locomotive production. Most of the class were based at Shanghai Bureau, with some others working as far south as Guangzhou. At its apex, ND2 class was the predominant passenger power south of Yangtze River. Rated at 2300 hp UIC, ND2 traces its lineage back to a Swiss design created by SLM and Sulzer. Co-Co is the wheel arrangement for Diesel locomotive, diesel and electric locomotives with two six-wheeled bogies with all axles powered, with a separate traction motor per axle. The equivalent UIC classification of locomotive axle arrangements, UIC classification (Europe) for this arrangement is Co′Co′, or C-C for AAR wheel arrangement#C-C, AAR (North America). The Ae 6/6 is a Swiss locomotive and railcar classification, class of heavy electric locomotive used by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). It is sometimes also referred to as "cantons of Switzerland, canton locomotive" (), because the first 25 locomotives (a 26th was renamed after the separation of canton of Jura, Jura) were named after the cantons of Switzerland and carried the canton's coat of arms on the side and chrome plating, chrome embellishments (a single raised stripe on each side and three raised stripes on each end), and the Swiss coat of arms on the front, between the chrome stripes. These adornments made them internationally famous. The other 95 (94) locomotives received the names of capital cities of Swiss cantons, and other towns and cities, but without the chrome embellishments.
