China Grill
China Grill New York was established in 1987 at the CBS Building in Manhattan, New York City. It was founded by partners Jeffrey Chodorow and Kenji Seki, with Seki both managing and fulfilling executive chef responsibilities. The menu was based on Seki's previous employer, Chinois on Main, which was located in Santa Monica, California and owned by Wolfgang Puck. He would return to Los Angeles a year later to start his restaurant called Noa Noa. CBS Building
The CBS Building, also known as Black Rock and 51W52, is a 38-story, tower at 51 West 52nd Street in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City, New York, U.S. It is the headquarters of the CBS broadcasting network. The building was constructed from 1961 to 1964 and was the only skyscraper designed by Eero Saarinen, who referred to the building as the "simplest skyscraper statement in New York". The interior spaces and furnishings were designed by Saarinen and, after his death, Florence Knoll Bassett. The building was also the headquarters of CBS Records (later Sony Music Entertainment) before the early 1990s. Jeffrey R. Chodorow (born March 2, 1950) is an American restaurateur, lawyer and financier. Early life and education Jeffrey Chodorow was born in the Bronx. His father died the year he was born, and he and his mother moved to Miami, Florida in 1950 to live with Chodorow's mother's sister. His mother and aunt were both manicurists in a Cuban barbershop. He grew up in Miami Beach. Chodorow grew up poor in a wealthy Miami area. Chodorow graduated magna cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1972 with a degree in economics. Wolfgang Puck
Wolfgang Johannes Puck (born July 8, 1949) is an Austrian chef and restaurateur. Early life Puck was born in Sankt Veit an der Glan, Austria. He learned cooking from his mother, who was a pastry chef. He took the surname of his stepfather, Josef Puck, after his mother's remarriage. The marriage produced two younger sisters and a younger brother for Wolfgang. Career Puck trained as an apprentice under Raymond Thuilier at L'Oustau de Baumanière in Les Baux-de-Provence, at Hôtel de Paris in Monaco, and at Maxim's Paris before moving to the United States in 1973 at age 24.
