Mahogany Rush
Mahogany Rush was a Canadian rock band led by guitarist Frank Marino. Formed in Montreal, Quebec in 1969, the band had its peak of popularity in the 1970s, playing venues as large as California Jam II. The band is perhaps best known for Marino's soaring lead guitar which bears a strong resemblance to the playing of Jimi Hendrix. Long-term members of the band have included bassist Paul Harwood and drummer Jimmy Ayoub, and Frank's brother Vince on guitar; Frank Marino is the sole continuous member of the band. Starting in the late 1970s, the group recorded and toured as Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. Musical style Marino has described the band's sound as "The Grateful Dead meets jazz". 20th Century Fox Records (also known as 20th Fox Records and 20th Century Records, or simply 20th Century Fox Film Scores and Fox Records) was a wholly owned subsidiary of film studio 20th Century Fox. The history of the label covers three distinct 20th Century Fox-related operations in the analog era, ranging chronologically from about 1938 to 1981. Frank Marino
Francesco Antonio Marino (born November 20, 1954) is a Canadian guitarist and singer, best known as the leader of Canadian hard rock band Mahogany Rush. Often compared to Jimi Hendrix, he is described as one of the most underrated guitarists of the 1970s. In 2021, he announced his retirement from music. Biography and career After playing drums since he was five, Marino started playing guitar around age 13 or 14. An often-repeated myth is that he was visited by an apparition of Jimi Hendrix after a bad LSD trip - a myth Marino has always disavowed, and continues to do so on his personal website. His playing, however, is inspired by Hendrix (on the Gibson website he is described as "carrying Jimi's psychedelic torch"), and Marino is notable for often performing cover versions of Hendrix classics such as "Purple Haze" and " All Along The Watchtower". The group's frontman Frank Marino is credited as the writer of all songs and the album's producer. Songs "Buddy" and "All in Your Mind" were previously released as a single in May 1972. The album's front cover includes part of the central panel from Hans Memling's painting The Last Judgment. The phrase ''Dedicated to Jimi Hendrix'' is printed at the back cover.
