Chief Of The Turkish General Staff
The Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces () is the chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces (). He is appointed by the President of Turkey, who is the commander-in-chief. The position dates to the period of the Government of the Grand National Assembly and the Turkish War of Independence. The post has its own rank insignia, which is the OF-9 (full General or Admiral of the Turkish Armed Forces) rank of the Chief of Staff's personal service branch surrounded by laurel wreaths. In practice, the position has always been held by a Turkish Land Forces officer. The current Chief of the General Staff is General Metin Gürak, since 3 August 2023. Bşk.lığı'') is the highest staff organization in the Turkish Armed Forces. Chief of the General Staff Source: The Chief of the General Staff is the most senior ranked officer in the Turkish Armed Forces. The current Chief of the General Staff is Metin Gürak. His predecessor was Hulusi Akar. According to the Constitution of Turkey, the Chief of the General Staff reports to the President and serves as Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces. General Metin Gürak is a Turkish people, Turkish general who is currently serving as the chief of the Turkish General Staff since 16 August 2023, replacing General Yaşar Güler. Prior to his appointment, Gürak served as commander of the Second Army (Turkey), Second Army. Early life and education Gürak was born on 20 August 1960 at Kızıltepe, Mardin. Mustafa Rüştü Erdelhun (1894 9 November 1983) was a Turkish general who served as the 10th chief of the Turkish General Staff in the Turkish Armed Forces from 23 August 1958 to 27 May 1960, and the 9th commander of the Turkish Land Forces from 1 August 1958 to 21 August 1958. He also served as commander of the 18th Corps and the Second Army. He was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in 1945, major general in 1947, lieutenant general in 1952, and general in 1956. Ahmet Nurettin Baransel (1897 21 May 1967) was a Turkish general who served as the 7th chief of the Turkish General Staff from 28 May 1954 to 25 August 1955, 4th commander of the Turkish Land Forces from 25 June 1956 to 16 September 1957, 12th commander of the First Army from 4 November 1952 to 6 April 1954, and the 11th commander of the Third Army. Mehmet Nuri Yamut Pasha (1890 – 5 June 1961) was a Turkish general, who became the 20th Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces on 5 June 1950. He was a career Artillery officer. Salih Omurtak (1889 – 23 June 1954) was a Turkish people, Turkish general and the fourth List of Chief Turkish General Staff, Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces. () is the highest rank in the Turkish Land Forces and Turkish Air Force. It is the equivalent of a field marshal in other countries. The rank of can trace its origins to the Ottoman Empire, where the rank of '' Mushir'' () was bestowed upon senior commanders upon order of the ruling Sultan.
