Chief Of Defence Forces (Kenya)
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) is the highest-ranking military officer in the Kenya Defence Forces and the principal military adviser to the President of Kenya and the National Security Council. The CDF outranks all respective heads of each service branch and has operational command authority over the service branches. He leads the meetings and coordinates the efforts of the Service Commander, comprising the CDF, the Commander of the Kenya Army and Kenya Air Force, Kenya Navy and the Commandant of Military Intelligence. The CDF has offices in Ulinzi House. Following the 2010 Constitution, the Chief of the General Staff was replaced with the Chief of the Defence Forces. Kenya Defence Forces
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) (, stylized as "KENYA ARMED FORCES" capitalized on its coat of arms) are the armed forces of the Republic of Kenya. They are made up of the Kenya Army, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Air Force. The current KDF was established, and its composition stipulated, in Article 241 of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya; it is governed by the KDF Act of 2012. Its main mission is the defence and protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kenya, recruitment to the KDF is done on yearly basis. The President of Kenya is the commander-in-chief of the KDF, and the Chief of Defence Forces is the highest-ranking military officer, and the principal military adviser to the President of Kenya. Julius Waweru Karangi (born 28 April 1951) is a retired Kenyan military officer who was Chief of the General Staff of the Kenya Defence Forces from 2011 until 2015. Jeremiah Mutinda Kianga (born 1950) is a Kenyan former Army Commander and Chief of the General Staff. He is known for having introduced the principle of Kaizen-continuous development for all officers in the Kenya Defence Forces. During his tenure he established collaborations with local universities to enable officers pursue further studies under the Defence Forces Continuous Education Programme. Jackson Kimeu Mulinge was a Kenyan military officer, and Chief of the General Staff in the 1980s. He was the longest serving head of Kenya's Armed Forces and the first Kenyan military officer to attain the rank of four-star general. Joseph Musyimi Lele Ndolo
Major General Joseph Ndolo was a former Chief of the General Staff and the first African to head the armed forces of Kenya. Career Ndolo was a member of the King's African Rifles. At the time of his enlistment Ndolo was working in a plantation in Moshi, Tanzania. He was placed into the 6th Battalion which found its way to Sri Lanka. By the time the Second World War had ended Ndolo had risen to the rank of Sergeant in the King's African Rifles. He sought a transfer back to Kenya after being commissioned as Lieutenant, then Captain and finally Major.
