Chick Garibaldi
Charles Curcuru (August 18, 1914–February 18, 1961), best known by his ring name, Chick Garibaldi, was an American professional wrestler. He often teamed with his brothers Gino and Ralph Garibaldi. Professional wrestling career Garibaldi made his professional wrestling debut in 1938 in New York City. From 1946 to 1952, Garibaldi teamed with his brothers Ralph and Gino in St. Louis and California. In 1956, Garibaldi teamed up with his nephew, Leo to win the NWA Southern Tag Team Championship after defeating Mr. Moto and Kinji Shibuya. On February 18, 1961, Garibaldi fought against Bruno Sammartino in a match at Sunnyside Gardens in Queens, New York. During the match Sammartino bodyslammed Garibaldi. Garibladi did not get up and the referee stopped the match. He died; he was 46. A medical examiner said that Garibaldi suffered a heart attack. Sammartino was stricken with remorse for months. Sunnyside is a neighborhood in the western portion of the New York City Borough (New York City), borough of Queens. It shares borders with Hunters Point, Queens, Hunters Point and Long Island City to the west, Astoria, Queens, Astoria to the north, Woodside, Queens, Woodside to the east and Maspeth, Queens, Maspeth to the south. The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) is an American professional wrestling professional wrestling promotion, promotion and governing body owned by Billy Corgan and operated by its parent company Lightning One, Inc. The AWA Southern Tag Team Championship was a professional wrestling tag team title in the Tennessee area from the 1940s through the late 1980s. NWA Mid-America was a professional wrestling promotion territory under the umbrella of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) that promoted shows in Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama from 1940 until 1981. The company was founded in 1940 by Nick Gulas and Roy Welch and was one of the first promotions to join the NWA after it was founded in 1948. Sunnyside Gardens is a community within Sunnyside, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. The area was the first development in the United States patterned after the ideas of the garden city movement initiated in England in the first decades of the twentieth century by Ebenezer Howard and Raymond Unwin, specifically Hampstead Garden Suburb and Letchworth Garden City. Bruno Leopoldo Francesco Sammartino (October 6, 1935 – April 18, 2018) was an Italian-American Professional wrestling, professional wrestler. He is best known for his time with the WWE, World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). Sammartino's first reign as WWF World Heavyweight Champion is the longest recognized men's world title reign in wrestling history.
