Chicago Socialist Party
The Chicago Socialist Party (CSP) is the local chapter of the Socialist Party USA in Chicago, Illinois and traces its origins back to the Cook County Socialist Party and the Socialist Party of America. It is a democratic socialist organization that supports numerous progressivism, progressive and political radicalism, radical causes in an effort to help build a broad-based, multi-tendency socialist movement. During the early years of the Socialist Party of America, the Chicago Socialist Party was one of the strongest locals in the country. Chicago City Council
The Chicago City Council is the legislative branch of the Law and government of Chicago, government of the Chicago, City of Chicago in Illinois. It consists of 50 alderpersons elected from 50 Wards of the United States, wards to serve four-year terms. The council is called into session regularly, usually monthly, to consider ordinances, orders, and resolutions whose subject matter includes code changes, utilities, taxes, and many other issues. The Chicago City Council Chambers are located in Chicago City Hall, as are the downtown offices of the individual alderpersons and staff. Kshama Sawant ( ; born October 17, 1973) is an Indian-American politician and economist who served on the Seattle City Council from 2014 to 2024. She was a member of Socialist Alternative as the first and only member of the party to date to be elected to public office, until part of the party split to found Revolutionary Workers. Robert I. Sherman (April 2, 1953 – December 9, 2016) was an American political activist, perennial candidate, and businessman. He was known for his role as an Illinois Green Party candidate and for his atheist advocacy. He died in a plane crash outside Marengo, Illinois on December 9, 2016, at the age of 63. Biography Early life Sherman was born and raised a Jew. He stated that he was an atheist since age 9, and that "it became a big deal" when he was 13. The Illinois Green Party is a statewide political party in Illinois. The party is state affiliate of the Green Party of the United States.
