Chicago Riot
The Chicago Riot was an indoor soccer team that played in the Major Indoor Soccer League. They were based in Villa Park, Illinois, near Chicago, and they played their home games at the Odeum Expo Center. Namesake The team is named after the numerous riots in Chicago's history, such as the Lager Beer Riot (1855), the Haymarket affair (1886), the Aldermen's Wars (1916–1921), the Chicago Race Riot of 1919, the Memorial Day massacre of 1937, the Division Street Riots (1966), the 1968 Chicago riots which followed the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Democratic National Convention protests later that year, and the Days of Rage (1969). Odeum Expo Center
The Odeum Expo Center was a convention center located in Villa Park, Illinois. It featured of exhibit space at the North Hall and of exhibit space at the South Hall. Both halls had pitched roofs as high as . The South Hall was also used as an arena with an 85-by-194-foot artificial turf surface for indoor soccer or indoor football. It seated 2,500 for indoor soccer, football or lacrosse, and up to 5,500 for boxing, MMA/UFC, wrestling, and concerts. The Days of Rage were a series of protests during three days in October 1969 in Chicago, organized by the emerging Weatherman faction of Students for a Democratic Society. The group planned the October 8–11 event as a "National Action" built around John Jacobs' slogan "bring the war home",Sale, Kirkpatrick, ''SDS'', Vintage Books, 1974, which grew out of a resolution drafted by Jacobs and introduced at the October 1968 SDS National Council meeting in Boulder, Colorado. Chicago Red Stars
The Chicago Red Stars are a professional women's soccer club based in Bridgeview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. A founding member of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league, they have played in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) since 2013. WPS was the NWSL's predecessor as the professional women's soccer league in the United States, and the Red Stars played in the WPS in 2009 and 2010. After leaving the WPS in December 2010 due to the league's financial issues, the club joined the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for the 2011 season. In 2012, the Red Stars co-founded and played in Women's Premier Soccer League Elite (WPSL-E): a one-year league which bridged the WPS and the NWSL.
