Chicago Croatian
Chicago Croatian was an American Soccer Club based in Chicago, Illinois. The club competed professionally in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup (National Challenge Cup), the CONCACAF Champions League (CONCACAF Champions Cup) and the National Soccer League (Chicago). All their home matches were played in Hanson Stadium and Winemac Stadium in Chicago. The club was founded in the 1950s and is historically the most successful Croatian soccer club in the USA. The height of the Croatians success came in the 1970s and 1980s, when the team reached the final of the prestigious Lamar Hunt US Open Cup (National Challenge Cup) in 1974, 1979 and 1984. They qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League in 1975 and 1980 but withdrew from the competition. The National Soccer League (Chicago), formed by the merger of the Chicago Soccer League and International Soccer Football League of Chicago in 1928, is a semi-professional U.S. soccer league which is the oldest continuously operating soccer league in the United States. 1985 CONCACAF Champions' Cup
The 1985 CONCACAF Champions' Cup was the 21st. edition of the annual international club football competition held in the CONCACAF region (North America, Central America and the Caribbean), the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. It determined that year's club champion of football in the CONCACAF region and was played from 9 April 1985 till 26 January 1986. The teams were split into 2 zones, North/Central America and Caribbean, (as North and Central America sections combined to qualify one team for the final), each one qualifying the winner to the final tournament. All the matches in the tournament were played under the home/away match system. National Soccer League (Chicago) Teams
The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association. Leo Kulinczenko is an American/Ukrainian association football player who played professionally in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the US Open Cup. Yaro Dachniwsky is a retired American soccer goalkeeper who spent most of his career with indoor teams. He played part of the 1996 season with the Atlanta Ruckus in the who played professionally in the USL A-League. He was also a member of the United States men's national handball team which placed ninth at the 1996 Summer Olympics Soccer Dachniwsky grew up in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. Dachniwsky's grandfather Dmytro Dachniwsky played for Ukraina Lwów. His father, Myron, played for Ukrainian Lions in the National Soccer League of Chicago. Dachniwsky graduated from Gordon Technical High School and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, playing one year on the Flames' soccer team. Croatian-North American Soccer Tournament
The Croatian-North American Soccer Tournament is a soccer tournament established in 1964 featuring teams representing the Croatian Canadian and Croatian American communities. It is organized by the Croatian National Soccer Federation of Canada & the U.S., and hosted annually by a CNSF member club. It is traditionally played on the Labour Day weekend to accommodate teams who have to travel long distances. There is no prize money for winning the tournament. The event attracts large Croatian crowds and is intended to allow each host club to gain financially so that they can maintain stability and promote their Croatian name and heritage in their own cities. The Peter J. Peel Challenge Cup, better known as the Peel Cup, was an open soccer competition that crowned the Illinois state champion until it was replaced by the Illinois Governor’s Cup in 1971. History Origins Peter Peel was born in 1866 in Dublin, Ireland and moved to Chicago, Illinois when young. He founded the first soccer association in Illinois, served as president of the Chicago Soccer League, and later became president of the United States Football Association.
